Community Services Coordinator, Kristin Dance presented a project idea that had
been proposed during the Arts Commission meeting on February 21, 2018 to
develop the Mother Earth Project to take place during the upcoming Hands on the
Arts Festival. The festival will be held on May 19, 2018 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the
Sunnyvale Community Center. Ms. Dance offered a volunteer opportunity to the
Commission to assist with creating a design or template for the Parachutes for the
Planet which is part of the Mother Earth Project. The Parachutes for the Planet
project is focused on raising environmental awareness and activating sustainable
communities through artwork. The project is accepting 200 parachutes created from
communities all over the world and when completed will be exhibited in Washington,
DC. The children attending the Hands on the Arts Festival would help create one
parachute measuring 12 feet in diameter. The finished parachute would be
displayed in the community before it is submitted for possible inclusion in the

project idea as some utility boxes are the property of PG&E or other entities. Once
completed, the City's Master Plan for Public Art may include recommendations in
