TELECONFERENCE NOTICE
Pursuant to Section 3 of Executive Order N-29-20, issued by Governor Newsom on
March 10, 2020, the meeting was conducted telephonically.
CALL TO ORDER
Chair Eskridge called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. via teleconference.

Commissioner Gluckman's absence is unexcused.

PRESENTATION
A 21-0457 Hands on the Arts Festival (Finalize Project and Plans)
Kristin Dance, Recreation Services Coordinator II, provided a presentation on the
Hands on the Arts Festival. Highlights included: scope of string project, scale of art
piece, registrant's interaction with the art piece, date/time of the event, and
staff/commissioner schedule.
Commissioners inquired and staff responded:
How can Commissioners assist staff with prep? Staff are preparing 200 Hands on
the Arts take-home kits that will contain materials for various projects.
Commissioners can help on-site or take items home to work on.

Chair Eskridge opened public comment.
Lucie Ramos, Sunnyvale resident, informed staff that she would be interested in
volunteering and has craft materials to donate to the City.
Chair Eskridge closed public comment.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Chair Eskridge provided an announcement of Commission vacancies and
application deadline.
Chair Eskridge opened oral communications and there was no public testimony,
closed oral communications.
CONSENT CALENDAR
Commissioner Veith moved and Commissioner Serrone seconded the motion to
approve the consent calendar as presented.
The motion carried by the following vote:

Approve the Arts Commission Minutes of March 17, 2021 as submitted.
PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2 21-0458 Public Art Project Discussion
Trenton Hill, Recreation Services Manager, provided a presentation on the Public
Art Project. Highlights included: public survey results for functional art projects,
whimsical small-scale projects, temporary/rotating art projects, and estimated
budget for each project.

Commissioners inquired and staff responded:
Do we know how much money can be spent? The Public Art Fund currently has
$500,000. Spending amount for this project is fluid, but will most likely fund one
project from each category this cycle.
Would unranked items be removed from future consideration? No, staff
recommendation will include alternative recommendations that may include
unranked items. Furthermore, unranked items will be available for voting at future
ranking cycles.
Chair Eskridge opened public comment.
Winnie Lam, Sunnyvale resident, informed the Commission that she would like to
propose a Winter arts event.
Staff will work with Winnie to agendize her presentation at a future Arts Commission
meeting.
Chair Eskridge closed public comment.
Staff conducted a voice vote and tallied Commissioner's rankings for functional art
projects, whimsical small-scale projects, and temporary/rotating art projects. Staff
will provide Commissioners with the ranking results at the next Arts Commission with
final recommendation and estimated budget figures.

Sue Serrone asked if staff could provide an update on the Public Art website?
Image gallery is a work in progress, but will add more as funding allows.
Mayor Klein asked if residents find mistakes on the Public Art website, what would
be the best way to inform staff? Patrons can email their input to

This category provides an opportunity for members of the public to address the
commission on items not listed on the agenda and is limited to 15 minutes (may
be extended or continued after the public hearings/general business section of the
agenda at the discretion of the Chair) with a maximum of up to three minutes per
