City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Arts Commission Wednesday, June 19, 2024 7:00 PM Online and Bay Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Veith called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Veith led the salute to the United States flag. ROLL CALL Present: 4 - Chair Agnes Veith Commissioner Dawna Eskridge Commissioner Molly Kauffman Commissioner Winnie Lam Vice Chair Filley (excused absence) Council Liaison Klein (present) PRESENTATION A 24-0665 Recognition of Service Larry Klein, Council Liaison, thanked Kathryn Filley for her years of service. B 24-0666 National Art and Humanities Month (Scope of Commission Hosted Art Project) Kristin Dance, Recreation Coordinator, discussed Art in the Park for National Arts and Humanities Month. She asked the Commission to provide suggestions. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes - Final June 19, 2024 Commissioner Eskridge moved and Commissioner Lam seconded the motion to approve the consent calendar as submitted. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Veith Commissioner Eskridge Commissioner Kauffman Commissioner Lam No: 0 Absent: 1 - Filley 1A 24-0663 Approve the Arts Commission Meeting Minutes of April 17, 2024 1B 24-0664 Approve the Special Joint Arts Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and Board of Library Trustees Meeting Minutes of May 15, 2024 PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 24-0695 Review and Recommendation of Public Art for Lakewood Library and Learning Center Kristin Dance provided an introduction and the following artists presented their artwork submissions: Roberto Delgado, Lordy Rodriguez, Rough Edge Collective, Harumo Sato, Yanoe x Zoueh, Eric Powell, Ride Art Studio, Studiofolia, Urban Rock Design and WOWHAUS. Commissioners asked questions regarding the use of recycled materials, lighting, and community engagement. Staff conducted a voice vote and the final rank is as follows: Internal Location 1. Studiofolia Commissioner Lam moved and Chair Veith seconded the motion to recommend Yanoe x Zoueh as the interior location artist and Ride Art Studio as the exterior location artist. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Veith Commissioner Eskridge Commissioner Kauffman Commissioner Lam No: 0 Absent: 1 - Filley STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES None. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments None. -Staff Comments Kristin Dance informed the Commission that the City has released a Request for Qualifications to solicit artists for The Suns of Sunnyvale, formerly know as the Sunnyvale Icon's Project. Such a determination shall be made prior to opening public comment on Oral Communications. This category provides an opportunity for members of the public to address the Arts Commission on items not listed on the agenda and is limited to 15 minutes (may be extended or continued after the public hearings/general business section of the agenda at the discretion of the Chair) with a maximum of up to three minutes per speaker.
