PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS
2 15-1057 Community Condition Indicators
Interim Director Cain provided the Board with an overview of the Library’s
community condition indicators over the past ten years. Interim Director Cain
commented that the circulation of children’s materials continues to increase. This
past fiscal year, children's circulation accounted for 50.7% of total library
circulation. Board Members inquired regarding decrease in overall library
circulation and size of children's and teen's area. Interim Director Cain indicated
that one possible reason for decrease in circulation is customers are searching for
answers via online resources. She also commented that staff is in the process of
increasing the children's area; however, change is limited due to size and/or layout
of building. Interim Director Cain also commented that the number of patent
applications submitted by Sunnyvale residents continues to increase.
Chair Shanmugasundaram opened the public hearing, and there being no public
testimonies, closed the public hearing.
