City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Board of Library Trustees Monday, June 13, 2016 7:00 PM Library Program Room, Sunnyvale Public Library, 665 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 Special Meeting CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: 5 - Chair Jill Shanmugasundaram Vice Chair Carey Wingyin Lai Board Member Daniel Bremond Board Member Mark Isaak Board Member Erika Torres Council Liaison Glenn Hendricks (absent). PRESENTATION 16-0611 Recognition of Service Following Non-Agenda Items & Comments, Director Bojorquez presented Board Member Bremond and Chair Shanmugasundaram with certificates of appreciation for their service while on the Board. Chair Shanmugasundaram expressed her gratitude for being part of the Library Trustees these past seven years. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR 1 16-0609 Approval of Draft Minutes of May 16, 2016 Board Member Bremond moved, and Vice Chair Lai seconded, approval of the consent calendar as presented. The motion carried by the following vote: City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Board of Library Trustees Meeting Minutes - Final June 13, 2016 Yes: 5 - Chair Shanmugasundaram Vice Chair Lai Board Member Bremond Board Member Isaak Board Member Torres No: 0 PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 16-0612 Overview of Harwood Public Innovators Lab Training Director Bojorquez commented that staff members recently attended the Harwood Public Innovator's Lab training. Director Bojorquez welcomed Librarian Christina Shin to the meeting. Librarian Shin provided the Board with an overview of the training that took place May 23-25 in Sacramento. Approximately 100 library professionals attended the training which ncluded: librarians, directors, administrators, library trustee members and council members. The training is based on Harwood's "Libraries Transform" campaign that focuses on transitioning libraries from being an inward focus organization to an outward focus organization. It also focuses on helping libraries build relationships with their communities and how to serve their communities outside of the library building. Staff have identified short-term goals and have established an action plan to help assist with applying some of Harwood's practices for the Branch Library Project. Board Members expressed their enthusiasm regarding the campaign and inquired if staff would be training City Council and other City staff. Director Bojorquez indicated that the immediate focus will be to train a team of Library and Community Services staff and have them build a relationship with North Sunnyvale. Chair Shanmugasundaram opend the public hearing, and there being no public comments, closed the public hearing. STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES None. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Board Member Comments Board Member Bremond shared with the Board positive feedback of the Sunnyvale Art Club Exhibition he attended the weekend of June 11-12 at the Sunnyvale Public Library. City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Board of Library Trustees Meeting Minutes - Final June 13, 2016 -Staff Comments Director Bojorquez noted the following: - The State of the City event is scheduled for Saturday, July 9 at City Hall Campus. The event will kick-off at 10 a.m. with a "go green" bike and stroller contest. The State of the City Address is scheduled for 11 a.m. Library activities during the event include: Fremont High School Robotic Demo, Sweets and Selfie Station, Teen Maker Program, Behind the Scenes Tours and "how to" program hiighlighting the Library's eResources. Director Bojorquez presented Board Member Bremond and Chair Shanmugasundaram with certificates of appreciation for their service while on the Board. Chair Shanmugasundaram expressed her gratitude for being part of the Library Trustees these past seven years. INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS None.
