City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Board of Library Trustees Monday, November 7, 2022 7:00 PM Telepresence Meeting: City Web Stream CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to Government Code Subdivision 54953(e), the meeting was conducted telephonically; pursuant to state law, the City Council made the necessary findings by adopting Resolution No. 1089-21, reaffirmed on October 25, 2022. Chair Wang called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: 5 - Chair Sharlene Wang Vice Chair Mark Isaak Board Member Kathy Boelter Board Member Rahul Jain Board Member Andrew Ma Council Liaison Spitaleri (present) PRESENTATION 22-1052 PRESENTATION - Annual Library Statistics and Trends Management Analyst, Laura Jammal, presented on the Annual Library Statistics and Trends. Highlights included: visitor counts, total circulation, e-colllection circulation, non-book circulation, children's circulation, circulation analysis, interlibrary loan, and library program participation. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR Motion: Board Member Jain moved and Board Member Ma seconded, approval of the consent calendar as presented. PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 22-1051 Preliminary Discussion of 2023 Master Work Plan Superintendent of Libraries, Steve Sloan, reviewed the 2023 Master Work Plan with the Board. The Board suggested adding: Branch Library update, and equity, access and inclusion initiatives Chair Wang opened the public hearing, and there being no public testimony, closed the public hearing. STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Board Member Comments Board Members commented on: a writers program that another library is offering, book club programs where participants don't read the same book and had discussion about what they experienced, and engaging teenagers by having the library teen volunteers create their own programs and have their own conversation. -Staff Comments Superintendent of Libraries, Steve Sloan spoke about: inquired if anyone would like to be a volunteer for our new library card contest, grant awarded from Pacific Library Partnership focused on sustainability and outdoor experiences, grant awarded from California State Library focused on sustainability and adding to the Library of Things, the remodel of the library's Welcome Wall, the gingerbread village will be unveiled during the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Downtown Sunnyvale, City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Board of Library Trustees Meeting Minutes - Final November 7, 2022 repair cafe is returning to the library this Saturday, Nov. 12, Friends of the Library book sale Nov. 19-20, and congratulations to Chaunacey Dunklee for completing the Santa Clara County Leadership Academy in addition to applying for, and being awarded the Pacific Library Partnership and California State Library grants.
