Mayor Griffith called the meeting to order at 5:50 p.m.

Councilmember Jim Davis
Councilmember Glenn Hendricks

3 Public Comment
A member of the public made comments and provided questions on the following
topic:
· Unit sizes in new development in the Washington Attendance area
4 Study Session
14-0752 School Enrollment Rate and Projections
Study Session Summary:
City Planning Officer Trudi Ryan, Enrollment Projection Consultant Tom Williams
and Superintendent of Schools Benjamin Picard presented a PowerPoint
presentation with information on the City and School District, housing development
activity, school enrollment and enrollment projections.
Councilmembers asked questions and discussed with City and District staff the
following items:
· Adequate funding for the School District to meet instructional needs
· Location and capacity of schools in the District
· Priorities for District spending in the classrooms
· Effect of commercial development in Sunnyvale on District budgets

· Theories on why enrollment decreased at certain schools
· Effect of API scores and rents on household makeup and school enrollment
· Effect of unit type and size on student generation
· Accuracy of long-term predictions
· Coordination and communication with other school districts serving Sunnyvale
· Fiscal and attendance effects from reopening schools currently leased to
private schools
· Authority of the Council to make land use decisions based on school impacts
