City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Heritage Preservation Commission Wednesday, July 7, 2021 7:00 PM Teleconference Meeting: City Web Stream Regular Meeting - 7PM SPECIAL TELECONFERENCE NOTICE CALL TO ORDER Vice Chair Hopkins called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. ROLL CALL Commissioner Wu and Caroompas absences were unexcused. Present: 4 - Commissioner Jenny Bratton Vice Chair Shanna Gaudenti Chair Dawn Hopkins Commissioner Pamela Sharma Absent: 2 - Commissioner Steve Caroompas Commissioner David Wu PRESENTATION Senior Planner George Schroeder announced newly appointed Commissioner Pamela Sharma to her first meeting and provided her interests and background. Mr. Schroeder also noted that this is Commissioner Cadouri's last meeting as she will be changing residences outside the City. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. MOTION: Commissioner Bratton moved and Commissioner Gaudenti seconded the motion to approve the Minutes of June 10, 2021, as submitted. Yes: 4 - Chair Hopkins Vice Chair Gaudenti Commissioner Bratton Cadouri No: 0 Absent: 2 - Commissioner Caroompas Commissioner Wu Abstain: 1 - Commissioner Sharma PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2. 21-0695 Selection of Chair Commissioner Bratton motioned and Commissioner Gaudenti seconded to nominate Vice Chair Hopkins to serve as the Chair. The Motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5 - Commissioner Bratton Cadouri Vice Chair Gaudenti Chair Hopkins Commissioner Sharma No: 0 Absent: 2 - Commissioner Caroompas Commissioner Wu 3. 21-0790 Selection of Vice Chair City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final July 7, 2021 Commissioner Bratton motioned and Commissioner Cadouri seconded to nominate Commissioner Gaudenti to serve as the Vice Chair. The Motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 5 - Commissioner Bratton Cadouri Vice Chair Gaudenti Chair Hopkins Commissioner Sharma No: 0 Absent: 2 - Commissioner Caroompas Commissioner Wu STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES None. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments Commissioner Cadouri announced her leaving the City and thanked the Commissioners for their continued service. Commissioner Bratton asked the Commissioners if they were interested in joining her in touring the Heritage Resources in the City provided there are no Brown Act issues. Commissioner Sharma asked about a previous agenda item regarding documenting Asian American history and Mr. Schroeder replied that an active Study Issue to update the Historic Context Statement to reflect contributions by Asian-Americans and other minorities in Sunnyvale. He stated that the City Council ranked it however the funding was not approved and would be reconsidered next year. INFORMATION ONLY REPORTS/ITEMS Mr. Schroeder noted that there will likely be no meeting in August due to lack of business and the next regular meeting will likely occur in September which may include a training from the City Attorney's office regarding the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). City of Sunnyvale Page 3 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final July 7, 2021 Mr. Schroeder wished Commissioner Cadouri the best on her future endeavors and welcomed Commissioner Sharma. Chair Hopkins asked about continuing Zoom meetings and Mr. Schroeder stated that the City Clerk, with the guidance of the City Council, is currently determining how the City will be conducting Board and Commission meetings; whether they will be a hybrid of a physical and virtual meeting or to revert back to only physical meetings.
