Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 Special Meeting CALL TO ORDER Chair Evans called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Evans led the salute to the flag. ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Chair Patti Evans Vice Chair Minjung Kwok Commissioner Diana Gilbert Commissioner Joshua Grossman Commissioner Ken Hiremath Commissioner Avaninder Singh Absent: 1 - Commissioner Elinor Stetson Commissioner Elinor Stetson (excused) Council Liaison Glenn Hendricks (absent) ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Ashley Peil spoke on behalf of MayView Community Health Center and encouraged the Commissioners to consider the letter MayView submitted and recommend funding MayView's proposal for a human services grant from the General Fund. CONSENT CALENDAR 1.A 17-0417 Approve the Housing and Human Services Commission Meeting Minutes of March 22, 2017 Chair Evans asked if anyone wanted to discuss the item in the consent calendar. MOTION: Commissioner Gilbert moved and Commissioner Kwok seconded the motion to approve the consent calendar which is comprised of the Housing and Human Services Commission Minutes of March 22, 2017 as submitted. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 6 - Chair Evans Vice Chair Kwok Commissioner Gilbert Commissioner Grossman Commissioner Hiremath Commissioner Singh No: 0 Absent: 1 - Commissioner Stetson PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 17-0276 Consider Draft 2017 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Action Plan Housing Officer Suzanne Isé gave a brief report and overview of the draft Action Plan. She explained the current uncertainty about this year's grants from the federal government, and noted that the Action Plan includes three possible scenarios depending on the amount of the grants. She also noted that staff expects to have a better estimate of federal funding levels by the May 9th Council hearing on the Action Plan, and will provide updates at that time. After some clarifying questions of staff Chair Evans opened the public hearing at 7:40 p.m. The following representatives spoke on behalf of their programs and thanked the commissioners and staff for their funding recommendations. ● Greg Pensinger, Downtown Streets Team (DST): WorkFirst Sunnyvale Program. He also invited everyone to DST's weekly meetings, and to visit KARTMA Street Cafe, located at the Sunnyvale Public Library Plaza. ● Marie Bernard, Sunnyvale Community Services: Food Assistance Program. She also invited everyone to SCS's Spring Boutique event. ● Dan Schmid, LifeMoves: Homeless Shelter Program. ● Colleen Hudgen, Live Oak Adult Day Services: Adult Day Care Services and City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Housing and Human Services Meeting Minutes - Final April 19, 2017 Commission Respite Program Chair Evans closed the public hearing at 7:52 p.m. After a few additional questions of staff, Chair Evans asked for a motion. MOTION: Commissioner Grossman moved and Commissioner Singh seconded the motion to recommend to Council approval of the 2017 Action Plan with several minor corrections as noted by Commissioner Gilbert, and regarding the human services allocations, switching the names of Alternative A and B on Attachment 3 to the staff report.
