CONSENT CALENDAR 1.A 17-1059 Approve the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes of November 8, 2017 Commissioner McCune moved and Commissioner Gabashvili seconded to approve the draft minutes of November 8, 2017 as presented. The motion was carried by the following vote: City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final December 4, 2017 Yes: 3 - Chair Kenton Commissioner Gabashvili Commissioner McCune No: 0 Absent: 2 - Vice Chair Alexander III Commissioner Pasqua PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 17-1031 Approve Agreement between the City of Sunnyvale and Bay Area Children’s Theatre for Use of Theater Facilities at the Community Center for the period January 5, 2018 through March 25, 2018. Community Services Superintendent, Dan Wax, and Community Services Manager, Trenton Hill presented a staff report on the proposed agreement between the City of Sunnyvale and Bay Area Children's Theatre (BACT). Commissioners inquired about promoting ticket sales and performances, local children participation and sign-ups and why California Theatre Center (CTC) did not extend its current agreement with the City. Staff indicated BACT has a built-in network in the Bay Area for promotion and marketing of ticket sales and performances. In addition, promotion and marketing can be done through the City's theatre bulletin boards and other theatre promotions such as constant contact emails and event posters/fliers. BACT is an established group of professional actors that provide children an opportunity to experience live theatre. CTC terminated the agreement with the City due to the closure of their organization. Chair Kenton opened for public hearing, and there being no public comments, closed the public hearing. Commissioner McCune moved and Commissioner Gabashvili seconded to approve the agreement between the City of Sunnyvale and Bay Area Children's Theatre for use of theater facilities for the period January 5, 2018 through March 25, 2018. Chair Kenton opened for public hearing, and there being no public comments, closed the public hearing. Commissioner McCune moved and Commissioner Gabashvili seconded to drop study issue CDD 18-06 Establishing a "Sponge City". The motion was carried by the following vote: Yes: 3 - Chair Kenton Commissioner Gabashvili Commissioner McCune No: 0 Absent: 2 - Vice Chair Alexander III Commissioner Pasqua Commissioner Gabashvili moved to drop study issue DPW 17-05 Orchard Heritage Park and Heritage Park Museum - Analysis and Options for the Long-Term Operations and Maintenance of Orchard Heritage Park and Review of the Sunnyvale Historical Society and Museum Association Proposed Expansion of the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum Site. The motion failed due to lack of support. Commissioner Gabashvili moved and Commissioner McCune seconded the motion to defer study issue DPW 17-05 Orchard Heritage Park and Heritage Park Museum - Analysis and Options for the Long-Term Operations and Maintenance of Orchard Heritage Park and Review of the Sunnyvale Historical Society and Museum Association Proposed Expansion of the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum Site. The motion was carried by the following vote: Yes: 3 - Chair Kenton Commissioner Gabashvili Commissioner McCune No: 0 Absent: 2 - Vice Chair Alexander III Commissioner Pasqua 4 17-1153 Review Draft 2018 Work Plan Calendar Superintendent Wax provided the Commission with an overview of the draft 2018 Work Plan Calendar. In addition, he noted the Master Plan for Public Art was tentatively scheduled for January, and a joint meeting with the Board of Library Trustees regarding the Lakewood Branch Library and Learning Center may be added to January's agenda. Chair Kenton opened the public hearing. There were no public comments, he closed the public hearing. Commissioner Gabashvili moved and Commissioner McCune seconded to approve the draft work plan as presented. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments Chair Kenton complimented staff on the City's recent Winter Activity Guide. In addition, Chair Kenton inquired if the pickleball hours at the Community Center campus could be extended. Superintendent Wax indicated staff would have to do some analysis in regards to availability of space, community demand and funding. -Staff Comments Superintendent Wax reminded Commissioners there will not be a Parks and Recreation meeting on December 13.
