City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Parks and Recreation Commission Wednesday, January 9, 2019 7:00 PM Council Chambers, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Kenton called the meeting to order at 7:11 p.m. in the Council Chambers. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Kenton led the salute to the flag. ROLL CALL Present: 4 - Chair Ralph Kenton Vice Chair Daniel McCune Commissioner Prakash Giri Commissioner Craig Pasqua Absent: 1 - Commissioner Henry Alexander III Commissioner Alexander III's (excused) Council Liaison Smith (absent) PRESENTATION 19-0048 PRESENTATION - Study Issues Overview Superintendent of Community Services, Damon Sparacino, gave an overview of the Study Issue process and the procedure for ranking Study Issues. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR 1 19-0049 Approve the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes of December 12, 2018 Commissioner Pasqua moved, and Commissioner Giri seconded the motion to approve the Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes of December 12, 2018 as City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final January 9, 2019 submitted. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 3 - Chair Kenton Commissioner Giri Commissioner Pasqua No: 0 Absent: 1 - Commissioner Alexander III Abstain: 1 - Vice Chair McCune PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 19-0050 Rank Study Issues Superintendent of Parks and Golf, Jim Stark, provided an overview of Study Issues ESD17-01 and DPW19-07. Staff responded to Commissioner's questions regarding review and modifications of Study Issues. Staff stated that Study Issues generated by the Parks & Recreation Commission (PRC) will be discussed and reviewed prior to being published for ranking. Study Issues by others, the PRC will be able to provide comments but no changes when ranking. Staff responded to Commissioner’s questions regarding the difference between youth and adult Cricket batting cages, potential locations and next steps. It was agreed that the cages are functional for all ages and that all open space areas will be looked at. Staff also indicated the process and timeline should the Study Issue be ranked above the line by Council at their annual meeting. Chair Kenton opened the item for public comment, and there being no public comments, he closed the item for public comment. Commissioners ranked proposed study issues for 2019. The Commission ranked DPW19-07 as one of two and ESD17-01 as two of two. Commissioner Giri moved, and Vice-Chair McCune seconded, the motion to approve the ranking of the 2019 proposed Study Issues. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments Chair Kenton shared that at the January 8 meeting, the City Council elected Councilmember Klein to serve as Mayor, Councilmember Melton as Vice-Mayor and that Councilmember Fong was sworn in. Chair Kenton also gave an overview of the Council Subcommittee Board/Commission Bylaws meeting that he attended on January 8. Vice-Chair McCune announced that the Sunnyvale wresting community was hosting a wrestling team from Japan and that a wresting duel is scheduled for Friday, January 11. -Staff Comments Superintendent Stark, stated that a Pilot Project for Drone (robot) delivery service of food and beverages is being explored at Sunnyvale Golf Course. Potentially this service may be available in the future to customers. The drone company is currently mapping the golf course.
