City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Parks and Recreation Commission Wednesday, October 9, 2024 7:00 PM Online and Bay Conference Room (Room 145), City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Kesting called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Kesting led the salute to the United States flag. ROLL CALL Present: 4 - Chair David Kesting Commissioner Daniel Bremond Commissioner Prashant Gattani Commissioner Prakash Giri Absent: 1 - Vice Chair Dona Mason Councilmember Mason (excused absence) Council Liaison Melton (present) PRESENTATION A 24-0996 Active Aging Month (Senior Programs) Trenton Hill, Recreation Service Manager, presented an overview of Active Aging Month (Senior Programs). Highlights included: Senior Center overview, memberships, programs, and active aging week schedule. Commissioners asked if the Senior Center has a maximum membership limit, offers programs to patrons with disabilities, expanding bike parking, if there will be a dedicated space for music programs, and transportation services for senior citizens. B 24-0997 Arts & Humanities Month (Art Programs) Trenton Hill presented an overview of Arts & Humanities Month (Arts Programs). Highlights included: project overview and Art in the Park Project. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Manny Diaz, consultant at TenCate, shared a video on artificial sustainable turf options. Commissioners asked questions about the new turf technology and that the video be forwarded to Council and Environmental Services Department. CONSENT CALENDAR Commissioners asked if a transcript of the meeting could be added to the minutes. Staff will follow up. Commissioner Bremond moved and Commissioner Gattani seconded the motion to Approve the Consent Calendar as submitted. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Kesting Commissioner Bremond Commissioner Gattani Commissioner Giri No: 0 Absent: 1 - Vice Chair Mason 1 24-0998 Approve the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes of September 11, 2024 Approve the Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes of September 11, 2024 as submitted. PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS None. STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES 2 24-0999 Promoting Local Food Truck Business with Unused City Land Commissioner Gattani presented on his potential study issue - promoting local food truck businesses with unused city lands. City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final October 9, 2024 Commissioners and staff discussed authorizing food truck parking. Commissioners did a random voice vote. The study issue was sponsored by a 4-0 vote with 1 absent. 3 24-1049 Assessment of Underused City-Owned Real Estate Parcels for Optimal Use Chair Kesting presented on his potential study issue - assessment of unused City-owned real estate parcels for optimal use. Commissioners and staff discussed adding temporary or revenue generating land uses to the study, change wording of title to " Assessment of Underutilized City-owned Real Estate Parcels for Short or Long-term Use", and if the City has a assigned City Property Administrator. Commissioners did a random voice vote. The study issue was sponsored by a 4-0 vote with 1 absent. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments Chair Kesting informed the commission that he would like to agendize discussion regarding turf at a future meeting. Damon Sparacino, Superintendent of Recreation Services, provided the caveat that discussion wont be relative to the existing study issue or council voted action. -Staff Comments None.
