CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1 14-0852 Draft Minutes of the Sustainability Commission Meeting of
August 18, 2014
Chair Paton pulled the minutes from the consent calendar and requested the
minutes be amended. Commissioner Hafeman moved and Commissioner
Sirvastava seconded a motion to approve the minutes with the clarifying language
added. The motion carried by the following vote:

Issue Process
· Ban on the Sale of Single Use, Single Serving Plastic
Water Bottles at City Facilities and Public Events
· Climate Change Preparedness
· Early Adoption of State Zero Net Energy (ZNE) Model
Building Policies
· New Study Issues
Commissioners discussed the previously proposed Study Issues. No new Study
Issues were identified.
Commissioner Glaser moved and Commissioner Hafeman seconded a motion to
approve and advance the three Study Issues as amended. The motion carried by
the following vote:

-Commissioner Comments
Chair Paton and the Commissioners wanted to acknowledge Dustin Clark's many
years of service and contributions to the Sustainabiliy Commission and the Horizon
2035 Committee.

Chair Paton lead a discussion about Commission meeting administration in light of
the staffing transition. Elaine Marshall will be the point of contact for the
Commission going forward until the Sustainability Coordinator position is filled.
Agenda items can be sent to Elaine Marshall, Chair Paton, and Vice Chair
Srivastava. Future meeting agendas will also be slightly reorganized to allow for
staff comments to be heard earlier in the meeting.
Commissioner Hafeman reported attending three good meetings, two of which
were sponsored by Sunnyvale Cool. One of the meetings included a City speaker
and was focused on transportation and planning impacts from high density
development and VTA's proposed North/South routes (Bus Rapid Transit).
Commissioner Glaser reported that he spoke at a Sierra Club meeting regarding
Community Choice Aggregation. Commissioner Glaser also highlighted the
upcoming event to break the world's record for most elctric vehicles in a parade at
De Anza College on Saturday, September 20, 2014.
Commissioner Fukumoto reported attending the State of City event and a recent El
Camino Real Forum.
-Staff Comments
Melody Tovar reported that the Climate Protection Campaign and Joint Venture
Silicon Valley was hosting a CCA Workshop for elected and municipal staff on
September 17, 2014. Melody Tovar also provided a preview of the schedule for the
Climate Action Plan Work Plan which will likely be on the Commission's October
agenda and will also be considered by three other commissions prior to
consideration by the City Council in November.
