City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Sustainability Commission Monday, July 18, 2022 7:00 PM Telepresence Meeting: City Web Stream CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to Government Code Subdivision 54953(e), the meeting was conducted telephonically; pursuant to state law, the City Council made the necessary findings by adopting Resolution No. 1089-21, reaffirmed on June 21, 2022. Chair Wickham called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. via teleconference. ROLL CALL Present: 7 - Chair Kristel Wickham Vice Chair Douglas Kunz Commissioner Jeffery Nabhan Commissioner Kristina Pistone Commissioner Murali Srinivasan Commissioner Tonya Veitch Commissioner Justin Wang Council Liaison – Councilmember Larsson (present) Chair Wickham, Vice Chair Kunz, all Commissioners, and Councilmember Larsson attended via teleconference. PRESENTATION 22-0742 PRESENTATION - Climate Action Playbook: Quarterly Progress Update Madeline Willett, Interim Environmental Programs Manager, presented the quarterly progress update on Climate Action Playbook implementation. Commissioners asked clarifying questions, and staff provided answers. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. Yes: 4 - Vice Chair Kunz Commissioner Pistone Commissioner Veitch Commissioner Wang No: 0 Abstain: 3 - Chair Wickham Commissioner Nabhan Commissioner Srinivasan Chair Wickham and Commissioners Srinivasan and Nabhan abstained as they were absent from the June meeting. PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 22-0743 Selection of Chair and Vice Chair Ms. Willett provided an overview of the Chair and Vice Chair selection process. Chair Wickham opened the floor to nominations for the office of Chair. Commissioner Wang nominated Chair Wickham to serve as Chair. Chair Wickham accepted the nomination. With no further nominations, Chair Wickham closed the floor for the nominations for the office of Chair. Chair Wickham opened public hearing. Jonathan Stone voiced support for Commissioner Wang. The Commissioners voted to elect Chair Wickham to serve as Chair as follows: Yes: 7 - Chair Wickham Vice Chair Kunz Commissioner Nabhan Commissioner Pistone Commissioner Srinivasan Commissioner Veitch Commissioner Wang No: 0 Chair Wickham was re-elected as Chair of the Sustainability Commission. Chair Wickham opened the floor for nominations for the office of Vice Chair. Chair Wickham nominated Vice Chair Kunz to serve as Vice Chair. Vice Chair Kunz accepted the nomination. With no further nominations, Chair Wickham closed the floor to nominations for the office of Vice Chair. The Commissioners voted to elect Vice Chair Kunz to serve as the Vice Chair as follows: Yes: 7 - Chair Wickham Vice Chair Kunz Commissioner Nabhan Commissioner Pistone Commissioner Srinivasan Commissioner Veitch Commissioner Wang No: 0 Vice Chair Kunz was re-elected as Vice Chair of the Sustainability Commission. STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES City of Sunnyvale Page 3 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes - Final July 18, 2022 Staff clarified the Study Issue process and timeline for the Commission. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments Chair Wickham and Commissioner Pistone encouraged Commissioners to listen to podcasts featuring BlocPower. -Staff Comments Ms. Willett shared that the Sustainability team brought on a summer high school intern to support outreach efforts.
