City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes Sustainability Commission Monday, March 18, 2024 7:00 PM Online and Bay Conference Room, City Hall, 456 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER Chair Kunz called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. in the Bay Conference Room (Room 145) at City Hall. SALUTE TO THE FLAG Chair Kunz led the salute to the flag. ROLL CALL Present: 5 - Chair Douglas Kunz Vice Chair Tonya Veitch Commissioner Kathryn Besser Commissioner Bobbykin Makwana Commissioner Kristel Wickham Absent: 2 - Commissioner Jeffery Nabhan Commissioner Kristina Pistone Commissioner Pistone’s absence was excused by general consent Commissioner Nabhan’s absence was unexcused Council Liaison - Councilmember Din (absent) PRESENTATION 24-0473 PRESENTATION - Updates from Youth Groups (Commissioner Presentation) Vice Chair Veitch invited Briana Horta, Management Analyst in the Office of Sustainability for the County of Santa Clara, and Jasneet Sharma, Director of the Office of Sustainability for the County of Santa Clara, to provide an overview and update on the County’s Youth Climate Initiative Program. Commissioners asked City of Sunnyvale Page 1 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes March 18, 2024 clarifying questions, and Ms. Horta and Ms. Sharma provided answers. STUDY SESSION 24-0474 Climate Action Playbook Update: 2022 GHG Inventory and Progress Update Christina Raby, Environmental Engineering Coordinator, presented the 2022 Greenhouse Gas Inventory results and provided Climate Action Playbook progress updates. Commissioners asked clarifying questions, and staff provided answers. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None. CONSENT CALENDAR 24-0475 Approve the Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes of February 20, 2024 Vice Chair Veitch moved and Commissioner Besser seconded the motion to approve the consent calendar. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Kunz Vice Chair Veitch Commissioner Besser Commissioner Makwana No: 0 Absent: 2 - Commissioner Nabhan Commissioner Pistone Abstain: 1 - Commissioner Wickham STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES None. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Commissioner Comments Commissioner Wickham encouraged Commissioners to attend the City of Sunnyvale’s Earth Day Festival and Civic Center Grand Opening on April 20, 2024, City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Sustainability Commission Meeting Minutes March 18, 2024 as well as attend other Earth Day events happening in the County. Commissioner Wickham reminded Commissioners of the March 19, 2024, City Council Study Session on Draft Game Plan 2028. Chair Kunz echoed Commissioner Wickham’s announcement about the March 19 City Council Study Session on Draft Game Plan 2028 and encouraged Commissioners to attend and participate in the public comment period. -Staff Comments Christina Raby, Environmental Engineering Coordinator, reported on previous and upcoming events. Such a determination shall be made prior to opening public comment on Oral Communications.
