Parks & Recreation Commission (Meets as needed/quarterly on 4th Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m.)

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION March 11, 2021 – Special Meeting Virtual Meeting via Zoom Members Present: Keith Kern, Gene Rosburg, Elizabeth Norén, Mike Almond, Nick Ledin, and Jemal Broussard Members Excused: Brittany Berrens-Markgren Also Present: Linda Cadotte (Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry), Tom White (SAHA), Mike Koutnik and Jim Anklam (Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve) Councilor Kern called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m. 1. Review of 2021 Recreational Grant applications MOTION by Kern, second by Rosburg and carried to move to the grant application interviews portion of the meeting. 2. Grant application interviews for new applicants as follows: 5:15 p.m. Superior Amateur Hockey Association 5:40 p.m. Friends of the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve 3. Recommend grant awards. Drift Dodgers Club – They requested money specifically for signage this year. They are able to be reimbursed for signage from other grants and so due to that, it was recommended that they not receive a grant this year. Superior YMCA - This grant is normally shared between the swim program and the soccer program, however this year they have decided to combine that into one grant request. North Shore SUP – Their grant request was for $1,700 to go towards Grom Fest and the remainder for youth programming –Superior Paddle Program. It was suggested that the $1,700 could be brought before the Mayor’s Festival Committee for a sponsorship grant. It was recommended to give them the $1,600 for youth programming. FOLSR – The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department can provide some of the cleanup equipment they requested from this grant such as bags, grabbers and gloves. Due to this, the recommendation is for $3,000 grant to be awarded as requested for birding equipment. 1 Park and Recreation Commission Meeting March 11, 2021  MOTION by Kern, second by Ledin and carried to accept the numbers as presented (list below), excluding the Superior YMCA which will be a separate motion. MOTION by Ledin, second by Almond and to approve the recommendation for the Superior YMCA.
