Sweeny Beautification Committee - Special Meeting

Minutes: March 25, 2025 (Special Meeting) I. CALL TO ORDER: Sanci Kennedy called to order the special session meeting of the Sweeny Beautification Committee at 5:31pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 II. ROLL CALL: Sanci Kennedy, Ashley Rambo, Joanna Rambo, J’Cee Coufal – by phone, Ellen Farley, Shelby Hinds, Melanie Mulllins, and Kayla Peterson were present. III. MINUTE APPROVAL/DISAPPROVAL: N/A due to this being a special meeting. IV. TREASURER’S REPORT: N/A due to this being a special meeting. V. BUSINESS: MEMORIAL BRICKS AT SWEENY ELEMENTARY: • Discussion about possible ways to replace bricks because many have been damaged over time due to mowing. • Beautification was asked if this project was originally ours, it was not. We will need to figure out which organization placed the bricks to see what we are able to do. • No action taken. GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP 2025: • Saturday, March 29, 2025 • 8am – 10:30am • Backyard Park • Water to be provided by P66 • Cold treats to be provided by Peace-Love-Retro Treats • Flyer has been sent to the schools FARMER’S MARKET: • Motion made by Joanna and seconded by Melanie to cancel the farmers market on April 5th due to lack of vendor participation. o All in favor. Motion carried. DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS® TRASH OFF/P66 ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING: • Thursday, April 24, 2025 • 8am – 11am • Backyard Park • Water and Breakfast to be provided by P66. • Cold treats to be provided by Peace-Love-Retro Treats • We are also partnering with Trees for Houston and they are providing their expertise, volunteers and post care resources for trees planted during this event. • 47 trees to be planted at BYP, 30 trees to be planted at Library, and shrubs in front of city hall. 1 SWEENY PRIDE DAY PAGEANT 2025: • Saturday, April 26, 2025 • 2pm Judge interviews • 5pm Pageant begins • Sweeny Elementary Cafeteria • Chair: Ellen • 2 Queen, 1 Princess, 2 Little and 3 Mini signed up so far. • Walkthrough was done at Elementary; still need podium and slideshow SWEENY PRIDE DAY 2025: • Friday May 2, 2025 – Saturday May 3, 2025 • Backyard Park • PARADE o Need rod for parade banner o Grand Marshals:  Melanie will reach out to family of Paula Besch  Ellen will reach out to family of Kenneth Lott • SPONSORS o Joanna will get quotes for Facebook ads and Brazos Weekly for pride day and the pageant • STREET DANCE o Cole Deggs is available for Friday night May 2nd for a fee of $2000. o Sweeny Rotary is meeting this Thursday, March 27th and will discuss if they will be sponsoring the street dance again this year and covering the fee or a portion of the fee. • VENDORS o 3 paid; 2 more approved • COOKOFF o Forms received for 13 spots; 6 of those have paid o Waiting on form and payment for 4 more spots o 12 spots available • ENTERTAINMENT o DJ Herman – front pavilion o Irwin’s – back pavilion o Most entertainment is filled; still trying to make contact with Dancing Divas • 5K GLOW RUN o Friday night; no fireworks this year so more options for route o Melanie is working on forms • CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT o Petting zoo; sponsored by P66; paid directly to vendor o Bulldog Party Rentals $433 – paid in full  Baseball challenge game  Basketball sports challenge  Football sports challenge o Bulldog Party Rentals $1710.35 – not yet paid; over budget by $643.35  Bouncehouse combo 2   Cali Palms Dual Lane combo  3 in 1 soccer darts, baseball, tic-tac-toe  Backyard connect 4  48ft. obstacle course o Motion made by Ellen and seconded by Shelby to pay overage of $643.35 to Bulldog Party Rentals for children’s entertainment.  All in favor. Motion carried. • CORNHOLE & WASHERS o Still need chair for this event. • BEAUTIFICATION BOOTH o 2025 Pride Day Queen will be working the booth Friday night. o Drinks and popcorn will be sold. • SECURITY o Ashley has confirmed security through SPD at $45/hour/officer. Still awaiting final quote. RECYCLED ART CONEST: • Ashley has sent the contest guidelines to SCS and is awaiting response on if the school will be participating or not. Meeting adjourned at 6:30pm.
