Sweeny Beautification Committee - Special Meeting

Minutes: April 10, 2025 (Special Meeting) I. CALL TO ORDER: Sanci Kennedy called to order the special session meeting of the Sweeny Beautification Committee at 5:40pm on Thursday, April 10, 2025 II. ROLL CALL: Sanci Kennedy, Ashley Rambo – by phone, Joanna Rambo, J’Cee Coufal, Ellen Farley, Starr Fitch, Melanie Mullins and Erica Landriault were present. III. MINUTE APPROVAL/DISAPPROVAL: Motion made by Starr and seconded by Erica to approve the previous minutes from March 6, 2025 and March 25, 2025. All in favor. Motion carried. IV. TREASURER’S REPORT: Current Balance = $27,487.43. V. BUSINESS: GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP 2025: • 11 volunteers • 27 bags total • Backyard park and library grounds DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS® TRASH OFF/P66 ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING: • Thursday, April 24, 2025 • 8am – 11am • Backyard Park • Water and Breakfast to be provided by P66. • Cold treats to be provided by Peace-Love-Retro Treats • We are also partnering with Trees for Houston and they are providing their expertise, volunteers and post care resources for trees planted during this event. • 47 trees to be planted at BYP, 30 trees to be planted at Library, and shrubs in front of city hall. • Sanci is awaiting shirt mockup for the event. • Motion made by Joanna and seconded by J’Cee to use $1500 community upgrades budget to pay wells for removal of trees before the event. o All in favor. Motion carried. SWEENY PRIDE DAY PAGEANT 2025: • Saturday, April 26, 2025 • 2pm Judge interviews • 5pm Pageant begins • Sweeny Elementary Cafeteria • Chair: Ellen • 3 Queen, 3 Princess, 5 Little and 8 Mini signed up. 1 SWEENY PRIDE DAY 2025: • Friday May 2, 2025 – Saturday May 3, 2025 • Backyard Park • PARADE o 11 signed up so far o Need rod for parade banner o Trophies ordered o Grand Marshals:  Family of Paula Besch have been confirmed as our grand marshals  Family of Kenneth Lott politely declined  Erica will ask Wayman to use his trailer as the grand marshal float • BEAUTIFUL BABY o Trophies ordered o Need chairs, tables and judges • SPONSORS o Bronze sponsors  Taco Loco  A/D Customz – sponsoring the car show  Old Ocean Masonic Lodge o Silver sponsors - $500  NONE o Gold sponsors - $1000  Phillips 66 – sponsoring $1000+ paid to petting zoo  CPChem – awaiting check in mail  Rotary Club of Sweeny – sponsoring street dance cost of $2000 • STREET DANCE o Sweeny Rotary has generously agreed to sponsor the street dance again o Cole Degges is booked for Friday night May 2nd. • CAKE AUCTION o Judges needed o Volunteers needed • VENDORS o 20 vendors o Rolling Randy’s and Peace-Love-Retro Treats will be our Friday night vendors. • COOKOFF o 19 spots filled; 10 spots available o Need judges; Joanna will create a link to sign up • ENTERTAINMENT o DJ Herman – front pavilion ($300) o Irwin’s – back pavilion o Entertainment lineup is set o Still need coverage for front pavilion 2  • 5K GLOW RUN o 2 sign ups o Medals in storage • CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT o Petting zoo; sponsored by P66; paid directly to vendor o Bulldog Party Rentals $433 – paid in full  Baseball challenge game  Basketball sports challenge  Football sports challenge o Bulldog Party Rentals $1710.35  Bouncehouse combo  Cali Palms Dual Lane combo  3 in 1 soccer darts, baseball, tic-tac-toe  Backyard connect 4  48ft. obstacle course • CORNHOLE & WASHERS o Melanie and Ellen will chair washers o Cornhole tournament is canceled until further notice • BEAUTIFICATION BOOTH o 2025 Pride Day Queen will be working the booth Friday night. o Drinks and popcorn will be sold for $1 each. • PORTABLE TOILETS o Joanna has ordered 5 regular, 3 handicap, and 5 hand wash stations from united and awaiting quote. o We have also requested for them to be serviced Saturday morning. • LIGHT PLANTS o 4 light towers to be provided by Dusty Hopkins/Trilogy • SECURITY o Ashley has confirmed security through SPD at $45/hour/officer. Still awaiting final quote. RECYCLED ART CONEST: • Trophies have been ordered • Deliverance Painting will be sponsoring $200 top prize • Ashley will reach out to Simple Simons and ask if they would like to sponsor pizza party rewards again Meeting adjourned at 6:51pm.
