Present: Chair: Chris Beck Attendees: Dianne Cherry (Deputy Chair), Buddy Daniels, Jim Della- Giacoma (Secretary), Ami Gadhia, Ron Hardy (ex officio), Kathe Quinn, and Claudine Schweber. Excused absences: Mandi Booth, Patrick Fleming (ex officio), Tom Horne (ex officio), and Troy Jacobs. Next meeting: 7 pm on November 17, 2022, on Zoom. 1. September Minutes Approved • The Chair circulated the revised minutes from the EPC meeting of 15 September to committee members. There were no comments, and the committee adopted the revised minutes. 2. Reports on recent developments from the TKPK, County, and State Mr. Hardy reported the following items: • STATE AND COUNTY: No updates. • STOP THE BLEED TRAINING: Mr. Hardy has conducted trainings for staff. New trainings are being consider and he will inform the Committee when scheduled to allow members to take part. One issue is where to do this. The meeting room in the basement of the fire station is a possibility but Mr. Hardy needs to survey the venue. • STREET FESTIVAL: Mr. Hardy has been preparing for this even (see below). • INDUCTION TRAINING FOR INCOMING COUNCIL MEMBERS: Mr. Hardy will be providing training on emergency procedures in the Community Center, including procedures for dealing with disorderly conduct in Council meetings. 3. Debrief on the Report by the EPC to the Takoma Park City Council • The briefing by Mr. Beck and Mr. Hardy on the Committee and City’s emergency preparedness work was well received by Council Members. Feedback received included suggesting that next language for translation of EPC materials should be Amharic, adding the 988 number to the Fridge Magnet, and exploring the Fire Station as a meeting venue during the renovations at the Community Center. 4. Takoma Street Festival • Due to weather, organizers rescheduled the festival until Sunday 23 October. The City’s table with emergency preparedness materials will be near the intersection of Carroll and Tulip Avenues, in front of Victory Towers. • EPC committee members volunteered via email to help staff of the city’s table: o 0930 – 1100 Ms. Cherry o 1100 - 1230 Ms. Schweber o 1230 -1400 Mr. Beck o 1400 – 1530 Ms. Quinn o 1530 – 1700 Ms. Gadhia o 0930 – 1700 Mr. Hardy and Mr. Daniels will be working the tables all day. • Rain is forecast, so come prepared! 5. Fridge Magnet • Mr. Hardy said he was still looking for funding for the Fridge Magnets and they would not be ready for the festival. He was looking for funding for 1,000 magnets and so far, had received funding for only 500. He was hoping the TPPD could fund the balance. The Committee could distribute the magnets as part of its regular outreach activities. 6. Other business • Mr. Della-Giacoma noted today was National Shakeout Day and asked for committee members if he could send materials to them. The website has resources for outreach and emergency preparedness (https://www.shakeout.org/resources/). • Ms. Schweber had circulated via email a collection of videos made by earlier EPC members and these were discussed.
