MINUTES OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING November 17, 2014 - 3:30 P.M. Members Present: Chairman Jan Naso Commissioner Tom Kot Commissioner Christine Higham Non-Members Mayor Dave Kline Present: ______________________________________________________________________________ The November 17, 2014 Civil Service Commission meeting was called to order. Minutes of the October 20, 2014 meeting were approved as published. Mayor Kline stated that the Administration appointed Jessica Simons as the new Parks & Recreation Manager. The interviews were conducted, she scored number one on the test and she is a great asset to the Tallmadge Rec Center. He also stated that a few people have been interviewed for the Assistant’s position and thinks they are ready to make an offer to one of the candidates. Chairman Naso stated that the Deputy Fire Chief Assessment Center has been completed. Two members from the Fire Department participated. One candidate that had turned in his application subsequently withdrew his application. Another member that had submitted his application did not meet the requirements that were stated in the posting in regards to the college degree. In each Commissioner’s packet were copies of the emails that were exchanged between Civil Service and the candidate. Nothing has been heard from this candidate; therefore the Chairman assumes everything is fine. The results have not been received as yet, but should be received sometime this week. A Head Custodian Test has been scheduled for December 9. The posting will be approved at the December 1 meeting. Currently there is an eligibility list for the position of Custodian that Director of Business BOE Steve Wood will be using to replace the custodian who will be promoted to Head Custodian as a result of the test. Mayor Kline stated that he is in the process of interviewing for the position of General Laborer. An individual turned in their resignation effective December 15. Chairman Naso stated that the Mayor at this point had not asked for the list to be reopened. When they find someone they want, ask at that time for the list to be reopened, it will be. If you don’t want to use that list, we will start the process to do another exam. Page 2 November 17, 2014 The Mayor also requested that a Patrol Officer Test be scheduled at the beginning of the year. There is a Patrol Officer retiring January 1, 2016 and has not indicated whether or not he wants to utilize his vacation time for 2015. He is in the Drop Program and he has to be out by January 2016.
