MINUTES OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING December 14, 2016 - 8:00 A.M. Members Present: Chairman Jan Naso Commissioner Tom Kot Commissioner Christine Higham Non-Members Mayor Dave Kline Present: Dr. Don Cooper Director of Law Megan Raber Fire Chief Mike Passarelli ______________________________________________________________________________ The December 14, 2016 Civil Service Commission meeting was called to order. Minutes of the December 7, 2016 meeting were approved as published. Each Commissioner received an updated record of the current eligibility lists and dates of when they were certified, first-hire date and expiration date. Chairman Naso explained why there was no expiration date on the Part-Time Records Clerk Eligibility List and the Cook/Food Service Worker Eligibility List: the expiration date will be 12 months from the date of the first hire. Mayor Kline did not have an update from Chief Williams regarding hiring from the Part-Time Records Clerk Eligibility List. Chairman Naso stated that the Part-Time Firefighter Exam is scheduled for January 24, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Center. It will be advertised on January 1, 8 and 15, 2017. The deadline to file an application with the Civil Service office is January 19, 2017. Seven applications have been received. Commissioner Kot made a motion to nominate Mr. Naso to continue as Chairman for obvious reasons. He knows the system and understands it and is very good at what he does. Commissioner Higham stated that she couldn’t agree more and seconded the nomination. Mr. Naso said that he appreciated that. Nominations were closed and Mr. Naso was elected as Chairman of the Civil Service Commission for 2017. It was announced that the Kitchen Manager Exam is scheduled for January 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the McCombs Educational Center. Chairman Naso stated that he will be in attendance and therefore the other commissioners do not have to be there. This is an internal promotional exam. Mr. Naso explained that they have a lunch program at David Bacon and they are very happy with the person who has been operating the program and they want to bump her up into a manager’s position. There is no eligibility list for that position. He explained to Mr. Wood that she needs to finish in the top three in order to be hired. Mr. Wood was fine with that. Page 2 December 14, 2016 Mayor Kline thanked the Commission on behalf of the Administration for all their hard work throughout the whole year. It’s probably been one of the most productive Civil Service years we’ve had in a long time, a lot of things going on. He thanked the Commission for all their work and service to the City of Tallmadge. Chairman Naso stated that we appreciate that. Commissioner Kot stated that he appreciates the opportunity to serve.
