MINUTES OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING March 9, 2022 – 8:00 A.M. Members Present: Chairman Jan Naso Commissioner Christine Higham Commissioner Tom Kot Non-Members Mayor Dave Kline Present: Police Chief Ron Williams Fire Chief Mike Passarelli Director of Administration Dr. Don Cooper Director of Public Service Mike Rorar ______________________________________________________________________________ The March 9, 2022 Civil Service Commission meeting was called to order. Minutes of the February 2, 2022 meeting were approved as published. Chairman Naso made a motion to certify the Fire Department Battalion Chief Eligibility List with five members (names). Motion was seconded and passed with no discussion. Mr. Naso mentioned that five persons applied and passed and went through the assessment center. He also mentioned that Chief Passarelli has the binder containing the information from the assessors. Mr. Naso made a motion to certify the Full-Time Technician Eligibility List with 4 members (names) on the list. Motion was seconded and passed with no discussion. Chief Passarelli stated that job offers have been made to six persons for the Full-Time Firefighter position and are in the process of completing their paperwork. We expect to swear them all in on the March 18 meeting in Council Chambers and will start work on the March 21. On March 17 and 18 we have final interviews for the Battalion Chief position and will decide thereafter. Mr. Naso briefly mentioned the legislation being done to enable the City to hire part-time general laborers outside of Civil Service and asked the Mayor if there was anything new with that. The Mayor answered no. Mr. Naso said that three persons have applied for the Police Captain’s position. The Screening Committee for that will meet today after this meeting to decide on the extra points to be added to their assessment scores. The Assessment Center is scheduled for Saturday March 19, 2022. Chief Williams stated that the conditional offer of hire will be sworn-in tomorrow night. He passed all his conditionals. Right now, we are at full staff. Page 2 March 9, 2022 Police Department Full-Time Records Clerk Exam is scheduled for March 14, 2022 and will be held here at City Hall. The test was not open to the public. Mr. Naso asked the Chief if a Part- Time Records Clerk test needs to be scheduled. The Chief answered yes and Mr. Naso told him to let us know. Mr. Naso announced that a new Assistant Road Superintendent Exam has been scheduled for April 5, 2022. The results of that exam will be combined with the current list that we have from the previous test with three names on it; one name was dropped. Mr. Naso stated that Civil Service will need documentation explaining why that person’s name was dropped.
