Council President Duarte requested that the Safety Officer and the City Engineer asses
any safety improvements that can be made at the sharp curve that connects Wales Street
and Mason Street.
That intersection is a sharp 90 degree turn in a residential area. I was informed by the
City Engineer that there have been no changes to that intersection recently. I have
evaluated the roadway, and spoke with Mike Patneaude in regards to this roadway. The
only safety upgrades that we can suggest is placing "CURVE AHEAD" signs on both
Mason Street and Wales Street, and chevrons at the comer of Wales Street and Mason
Street to warn motorists of the bad turn.
Respectfully Submitted

office and the Senate Clerk's office on this matter that has brought us to this point, for your
review.
As indicated by the attached letter from the Senate Clerk, dated February 9, 2022, the paperwork
for the proposed city charter legislation was filed with his office on September 16, 2021, at 3:50
pm. In addition, please note, when the Senate Clerk reached out to Senate Counsel for a status
on the proposed legislation, Senate Counsel responded that he believed their office would be able
to provide a working draft of the charter bill for review and comment by 2/18/22.
As stated, the draft legislation is attached for your review which also includes comments and
questions posed by Senate Counsel requiring the City's response. Once we receive the City's
response to Senate Counsel's inquiries, we will forward the same to Senate Counsel and the draft
legislation will be amended accordingly. Subsequently, the final draft will be returned to you for
final approval and then the proposed bill will move forward in the legislative process.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Senator Marc. R. Pacheco
Dean of the Massachusetts State Senate
