Approved by the Board of Public Safety MINUTES March 1, 2023 Vol. 7, Page 574 BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY Vote: Unanimous SPECIAL MEETING CITY HALL AUDITORIUM / ZOOM February 21, 2023 A SPECIAL MEETING of the Board of Public Safety was held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Attendance was in- person and by Zoom. Present at City Hall were Mayor Elinor Carbone, Fire Chief Eric Borden, Deputy Fire Chief David Tripp, Police Chief William Baldwin, Deputy Police Chief Bart Barown, Sergeant Baldis, Public Works Director Ray Drew, and Board of Safety Commissioners Glenn McLeod, Gregg Cogswell, and Joseph McElroy. Commissioners Darlene Battle and Molly Spino joined via Zoom. Commissioner Doug Benedetto was absent. Mayor Carbone called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m., beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance. ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT (AFG) On a motion by Commissioner Cogswell, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to authorize the Mayor to execute all grant documents pertaining to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) awarded by FEMA, in the amount of $546,392.71, pending City Council approval. Deputy Fire Chief Tripp explained to the Board that this grant was applied for initially in December 2021, and found out that it had been awarded at the beginning of this year. He said these funds will be used to get new battery-operated rescue tools and training for the whole department to become certified rescue technicians. He said the funds for the City’s share of the grant were budgeted last year. Commissioner Cogswell asked if the life cycle is the same as the current equipment, Deputy Chief Tripp said that the expected battery life is about 8 years, but not sure of the total life cycle.
