COUNCIL CONFERENCE MEETING MINUTES December 4, 2008 CITY HALL – 5:30 PM A Public Meeting of the City Council of the City of Trenton, New Jersey, was held on the above date at 5:50 p.m. at Washington Elementary School, 331 Emory Avenue. The meeting was called to order by Council President Paul M. Pintella. Council President announced that adequate public notice had been provided to the public specifying the time and place for this meeting in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act. FY 2008-2009 annual notice was mailed to the Times and the Trentonian Newspapers, posted on the first floor bulletin board in City Hall, and filed in the City Clerk’s Office on June 19, 2008 by Resolution No. 08-341. The agenda for this meeting was mailed, posted and filed on December 3, 2008. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Mr. Bethea, Ms. Lartigue, Mr. Segura, Mr. Pintella – 4. ABSENT: Messrs. Coston, Melone, Ms. Staton, – 3. ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. NATHANIEL M. JONES, SR. FOR HIS TIRELESS COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND Motion was made by Councilman Pintella, seconded by Councilwoman Lartigue, to adopt the above resolution by vote of City Council: Ayes: Mr. Bethea, Ms. Lartigue, Mr. Segura, Mr. Pintella – 4. Nays: None Absent: Messrs. Coston, Melone, Ms. Staton, – 3. DISCUSSION: a. Towing Ordinance b. Shared Services c. Strategic Planning (An informational folder was distributed by Councilwoman Lartigue) A detailed discussion was followed by a question and answer period. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Officer Ward – Gave a Safe Streets presentation. City Council Conference: Minutes December 4, 2008 1  Police Director, Irving Bradley gave a more detailed description of the program. Mr. Bradley mentioned that the Police Unit would be concentrating on high crimes – robbery, theft, etc. Police Officers are walking the street from 8:00 am – 7:00 pm and riding. Eight Officers will be starting in the East Ward. Officers will be speaking directly with the citizens to get their concerns. A detailed discussion was followed by a question and answer period. A detailed discussion on the privatizing of the Department of Inspections was followed by a question and answer period. The following individuals appeared and spoke in opposition of privatizing the Department of Inspection: Anthony Sessa, 13 Sampson Street Eli Mendlowitz, 35 E. State Street Carl W. Chiatti, 32 Cove Street Hiram Ortiz, 330 Reservoir Street Tom , N. Clinton Avenue Cleveland Thompson, 556 Parkway Avenue – Local Union President Paul Schorr, Greenwood Avenue Elroy Young, 217 Emory Avenue Tracey Syphax, 911 Bellevue Avenue Joseph Peoples, 326 Church Street The following individuals appeared and spoke in regards to the Towing Ordinance: Brian Hawkins Michael Risoldi, 25 Muirhead Avenue Michael Longo Patricia Stewart, 679 Lamberton Street – Spoke about the 2009 Budget; she stated that everyone must sacrifice something; opposes the privatizing of the Department of Inspection. James Fouse, 13 Cavell Avenue – Spoke regarding the City layoffs; stated that the City was under siege; requested statistics from the Police Department.
