Cindy Villescas CMC, City Clerk Time/Date Page 2 of 7 Page 3 of 7 Page 4 of 7 Public Arts Advisory Committee - Regular Meeting MINUTES City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277 www.29palms.org July 17, 2024 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM ROLL CALL: Paul Razo Sara Lyons Anna Stump Xarene Eskander and Kate Short had an excused absence PUBLIC COMMENTS-NONE 1. City Report Community Development Director Keith Gardner announced the meeting with Terene Latimer needed to be rescheduled. PAAC Secretary Katrina Bennett announces she will be resigning from the City of Twentynine Palms. The PAAC members thank her for her work. CONSENT CALENDAR 2. Approval of the meeting minutes on June 26, 2024 Paul Razo made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Sara Lyons. Approved. PAAC COMMENTS AND REPORTS OF MEETINGS ATTENDED Lyons attended the DBA meeting and met with Stacey Solie to discuss PR. Razo attended the rediscovery meeting. Anna Stump did not attend any outside meetings. BUSINESS 3. Budget Update Solie was not present to provide an update on the budget. 4. Creative Corps Discussion Stump stated that the left-over money from last fiscal year would be able to help to hire workers for the event and pay the documentarian. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS, REQUESTS, AND COMMUNICATIONS 6. Workshop29 Committee No update was provided on this agenda item. 7. Strategic Planning Committee The meeting with Latimer was rescheduled and Audrey Philpot was not able to attend the rediscovery meeting to present the grant from the Levitt Foundation. 8. Exhibitions Committee Kat Roberts craft show had a great turn out. Stump stated that there are still free craft kits available to pick up. The next show is Miltree; a spoken performance for Veterans. 9. Existing and Future Public Art Committee Kary Minatrea states should like the PAAC to showcase the "youth of the community" for the mural at Freedom Plaza. The PAAC thought about making it a mosaic. The concept, materials, and size will depend on how much the mural will cost. Latimer made a comment to expand on his Four Corners project to do a space-making. This would provide a safe space for the community to be a part in. Director Gardner would like to put a list of ideas and timelines to put in the general plan to create an Art Master Plan. No further updates on sculpture 29! This discussion may continue later. 10. Community Arts Grants Committee Razo received 4 reports back by grant recipients. Surviving and Thriving challenges a scheduling conflict. Adventures Claiming Sky went great. 29 Palms Creative Center didn't have access to the PAAC logo. 29 Palms Gallery for Youth and the Art turned out great. Page 2 of 3 Page 6 of 7 Public Arts Advisory Committee - Regular Meeting July 17, 2024 11. PAAC PR Committee Lyons and Solie met to reinstate the old Instagram post to the PAAC account. She also mentioned it would be great to announce the PAAC members on social media, creating a post just for them. Solie would like to post bi-weekly. 12. PAAC Arts Advocate of the Year Committee Stump mentioned she would like the community to be involved in the nomination process. Christopher Butler made a comment wanting to service the PAAC anyway that he can. Christina Butler made a comment about vandalism on art, materials for art pieces, gave some insight on ideas for the mural at Freedom Plaza, and adding art pieces to closed businesses with the help of the property owner.
