Roll Call - The following TBID Advisory Boardmembers were present: Quinteros, Knight, Grunt, Mehta. Vice Chair Maharaj had an excused absence. CHANGES TO AGENDA - None PRESENTATIONS 1. Noelle Glines-Bovio, Monument Manager, Mojave Trails National Monument, Bureau of Land Management As the new Land Manager for Mojave Trails National Monument, Noelle Glines-Bovio was pleased for the opportunity to be introduced to City Manager Frank Luckino and the TBID Advisory Board and spoke enthusiastically about continuing to work in partnership with the City and TBID under the established MOU with the Bureau of Land Management. 2. Veno Nathraj, Owner/Operator of Oasis Inn & Suites and America's Best Value Inn Veno Nathraj presented his questions, concerns, and comments regarding his disapproval of the TBID organization, the advisory board's role in advising the City Manager and City Council, and the marketing work that has been done since its establishment in 2017. BUSINESS 3. Approval of meeting minutes for TBID meeting on November 19, 2020. A motion was made by Chair Mehta, seconded by Knight, to approve the November 19 meeting minutes. COVID-19 Update Director of Marketing Dusastre shared the latest COVID statistics and ICU bed availability for San Bernardino County, along with details on the county's vaccine rollout. Dusastre also provided an overview of the current Regional Stay At Home Order and the latest travel advisory from the California Department of Public Health. Destination Update Director of Marketing Dusastre provided a variety of updates and news from the city, including details on newly opened or reopened businesses, updates on Project Phoenix and the city's proposal for the Theatre 29 expansion and Pioneer Park, the completion of the Desert Storm Homecoming & Victory Parade mural, and new regional air service at both Palm Springs and Ontario International Airports. Destination Updates PUBLIC COMMENTS - None DISCUSSION AND POTENTIAL ACTION ITEMS 6. Discussion and review of Q1 marketing activities and results (October - December 2020) Dusastre provided an overview of the digital marketing programs and results for the October - December Q1 period, including updates and results on paid search and social media work, as well as her presentation as part of a regional call with Visit California, the Greater Palm Springs CVB, and other desert region tourism partners. Q1 Marketing Activities & Results 7. Discussion and review of proposed updates to Visit 29 Palms partner program. Director of Marketing Dusastre presented the TBID Advisory Board with several additions to the partner benefit lists as part of the new Visit 29 Palms Partner Program. A motion was made by Chair Mehta, seconded by Knight, to approve the Partner Program additions proposed by Dusastre. Director of Marketing Dusastre shared details on the upcoming Leave No Trace virtual workshop which has been organized specifically for 29 Palms hospitality staff along with details of Visit California's virtual Outlook Forum. Upcoming Industry Events - Winter 2021 BOARDMEMBER COMMENTS - None DIRECTOR OF MARKETING COMMENTS Director of Marketing Dusastre updated the TBID Advisory Board about increasing optimism of events returning in the fall and shared a brief update on the planning talks for the annual Night Sky Festival and Vacation Races Joshua Tree Half Marathon. The wall was prepped by Wayne Winiecki of Mural Medic, and Now Completed the 10-week restoration and repaint was done by master artist Chuck Caplinger, artist Holgie Caplinger, and artist David Greene. These bundles included: • Mojave Trails National Monument maps • Desert Training Center brochures • Commemorative poster and Route 66 pins • Visit 29 Palms downtown map Page 47 of 55 Visit 29 Palms Tourism Business Improvement District Meeting: March 18, 2021. 29 Palms Visitor Center – Art in Public Places Exhibits Art in Public Places exhibitions will resume at the 29 Palms Visitor Center as of April 3, 2021. These exhibits feature works by desert artists portraying the iconic images of our Mojave Desert, Joshua Tree National Park, and the Twentynine Palms area in oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, pastels, drawings, collages, photography, mixed media, fabric art, assemblages, gourd art, metal sculptures, ceramics and other 2- and 3-dimensional works.
