City of Tybee Island Tybee Island Marine Science Center ad hoc Committee Final Minutes – 9/20/19 In attendance: Shawn Gillen, Alice Jonsson, Chad Z., Craig Clements, Maria Procopio, George Shaw, Wanda Doyle, Matt Schivera, Matt Lieb, Peter Gulbronson Wanda Doyle called the meeting to order at 11 AM. Shawn Gillen made a motion to approve the minutes from 07/19/19. Wanda Doyle seconded. Motion passed. Matt S. went over the master schedule. A little time was lost due to Hurricane Dorian – asking for a little bit more than a week to compensate. Engineer had to inspect to make sure Dorian didn’t damage building. Also, plywood delivery was slowed due to the storm. In some areas time was lost, but in other areas they are ahead of schedule. Wanda Doyle made a motion – We have been put on notice that there is a potential change in the contract down the road due to Hurricane Dorian. We have not approved a specific dollar amount related to the delay. Shawn Gillen seconded it. Motion passed. Matt L. did a two-week look-ahead. On target for rough inspections. Framing inspection will take several days and structural inspections will, too. CSO final field measure for storefronts was done. Window frames will take about two weeks and then order the glass. Glass will be in in December. Deck brackets arrived. That will take time. Deck framing is time-consuming. Change Orders-Matt S – Two change orders – Matt went over them – turtle glass and color change on storefront frames. They will be a net zero change order to the contract. Science Center will cover the turtle glass cost change and the decking upgrade (Numbers 6 and 9 of revised Change Orders). Structural steel brackets needed modifications – also a net zero change order. Matt S asked some questions about how to handle Science Center contributing money for the upgrades. Wanda Doyle and Shawn Gillen discussed. Wanda Doyle suggested we run it by Bubba Hughes. Shawn Gillen said make the change as is and would like to think through the accounting. Matt S. will revise the change orders (6,7,8,9). George Shaw made a motion – City shall approve the change orders with the changes Matt S went over- as said. Wanda Doyle seconded. Motion approved. Group discussed water learning table. Chad Z. – any improvements to the crossover near Science Center should be done prior to the grand opening. Group discussed how upgrades to the crossover could be potentially funded. Maria Procopio asked if Shawn Gillen could give her a rough estimate on how much redoing the crossover would cost. Shawn Gillen shared that the work can’t be done until after Nov. 1st and must be done by May 1st. George Shaw made a motion to adjourn. Wanda Doyle seconded. Motion approved. Meeting adjourned 11:45 AM.
