Main Street/ Development Authority Board of Directors Meeting Minutes Date & Time- October 25th, 2023 | 4:00PM Present- Charissa Murray, Susan Kelleher, Cassidi Kendrick, Cate Campbell, Michael Flores, Dillon Patel, Sarah Bernzott, Bill Garbett, Brian West, Tony Ploughe, Keni Lozada, Mariah Hay, Kelly Swope Location- Tybee Island Public Safety Building Call to Order- The meeting was called to order at 4:03 PM. Announcements- Cassidi announced that she did not have access to the recording of the September meeting due to IT issues. Approval of Minutes- Cate Campbell approved the minutes of the August 16, 2023 meeting, and the motion was seconded by Susan Kelleher. Old Business- There was no old business to discuss New Business- Director Report- Cassidi informed the board that new Christmas decorations had arrived, and there was a meeting to determine where the decorations would be around the island. The fate of the old decorations was also determined; some will be sold, and others will continue to be utilized. The wrapping of the palm trees with lights has started down on Tybrisa Street. The welcome sign trees, anchor park trees, Tybrisa trees, and the trees on the backside of the round-a-bout will also be wrapped with lights. Cassidi met with Hobie, who owns the landscaping business that wraps the trees, and he is getting a quote for replacing the lights and adding more lights to Strand Ave. to add additional lighting to the area. It was also discussed that after the holiday season, Hobie and his landscaping company will work on the landscaping for Tybrisa. Concerns were raised about the lack of lighting on the island's south side; it was voiced that updated lighting on the Southend is needed. Sarah Bernzott announced that there was a meeting with Jeremy Kendrick (Tybee Island Fire Chief) Michelle Owens (Tybee Island City Manager), and Pete Gulbronson (Public Works Director). She reports that these individuals were receptive to adding more lighting to the holiday events. During the meeting, there was a discussion of the light intensity, and it was decided that four portable spotlights would be implemented into the event's setup. Two spotlights will go near Sea and Breeze Hotel, one will go near Rock House, and the last one will be located on Strand in the 16th Street parking lot. The night before the Holiday Market, it was decided that the lights would be brought down and placed where needed. How the spotlights were powered was discussed, and it was determined that they were both electric and gas-powered but would be plugged in where there was power. Michael Flores inquired about Christmas lights that were not working; Cassidi replied that Hobie was making a list and that list would be given to Pete Gulbronson. Cassidi pulls up a map of the event and details the spotlights' location. Bill Garbett spoke up and agreed that even lighting at the event was the best option. Cassidi brings up the limit of terms one can serve on the board; she mentions that appointing the nominating committee is necessary. The nomination committee comprises Dillion Patel, Cherissa Murray, and Cate Campbell. There was a motion to appoint the nomination committee. Susan Kelleher approved the motion, and Michael Flores seconded the motion. All members were in favor of the motion. Committee Updates- Promotion Committee- There was concern raised about the two bounce houses being close together. Cate Campbell spoke on how having a large number of children in one area could cause concern. Cassidi comments on recruiting volunteer groups to run the kids' activities. Cassidi reports that Beth Martin has all the bands covered for the holiday market. She also states that they have yet to find an emcee for the tree-lighting ceremony. Michael comments on the development of the cornhole tournament. He states that he wants the national anthem to be played before the games. There was a discussion on the champion belt for the corn hole tournament. Price, weight, and whether or not the winners get to keep the belt were talked about. Cassidi goes into detail about the cornhole competition; she mentions the pricing and what the rewards are, and how they are distributed. Cassidi mentions that it was decided to combine the information tent with the wristband tent. Cassidi asks Dillion Patel if the volunteers could have a hospitality room. He states that there can be. The polar plunge shirts are not open for purchase. There was discussion about having more than 20 teams for the cornhole tournament. A more formal opening ceremony will take place before the competition. The national anthem will be played, and the mayor will toss the first bean bag. Cassidi mentions Main Street's willingness to donate to volunteer groups. The question was asked of how the volunteers would be fed, and Cassidi replied that there would be a room in the Sea and Breeze where vendors and volunteers could get refreshments. Design Committee- Michaels Flores updated the members that there has been a quote from the electric company. DPW, Michael, and the electric company mapped out Tybrisa Street. Michael states that the electric company said the conduit on the ground is good to go. The only repair that has been done was in front of Windrose. Michael wants to eliminate the spider boxes on Tybrisa. There is mention about the new benches and bike racks being set up. Cassidi states that she is waiting for DPW to schedule her. This will be done after the Holiday Market. Positive opinions were shared on the idea of using recycled tire rubber because it needs less maintenance and is sturdier than turf. Cassidi has been emailing Georgia Power, and they are tracking the lighting order; they estimate the lights will arrive by February. Michael Flores gives an update on the renovated outside spot in between the Carbo house and T.S Chus. He redid the lettering by adding white rock on the path, using benches already on the island. His whole goal for this spot is to promote customer/business interaction. ● Upcoming Events- - Trunk or Treat for the Y was on Oct 27th. - The Tybee Post Theater Music Festival was on November 4th. - Tour de Art is November 18th - Holiday Market is November 25th - Tree Lighting is November 25th - Christmas Parade is December 1st - Polar Plunge is January 1st - December 16th is another Tour De Art - The Lighthouse is doing a costume contest for Halloween to raise money for renovations. - November 11th, Captain Derek is doing the Cockspur Jamboree. - A new business is opening up in a bookstore in Tybee Oaks. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 5:07 p.m. with a motion from Cate Campbell and a second from Dillon Patel.
