ROSARIO: The first item is a 10 special presentation to Mr. Gregory Farmer. 11 MAYOR STACK: Just before we read the 12 presentation and Commissioner Fernandez presents 13 it, I'd just like to thank Greg. I've known Greg 14 for many, many years, since I was a young guy, I'm 15 not young anymore. But I've always had a great 16 relationship with Greg, I consider him a friend. 17 But most importantly, he's been an outstanding 18 attorney and municipal ABC prosecutor. No one 19 single handedly -- and I said this to Mrs. 20 Farmer -- has helped more in the City of Union 21 City to clean up. We had some real bad liquor 22 establishments when I came in as the mayor. And 23 nobody stood by me more than Greg did over the 24 last 21 years to help me clean up these places. 25 We closed so many of these bad places, we took 5 1 cases to the appellate division, to the Supreme 2 Court. I remember Studio 45, we had that case 3 going on forever. And we were victorious. And 4 thanks to Greg, he's helped me tremendously in 5 cleaning up the quality of life in the community. 6 It was much different when we took over, and Greg 7 could tell you, 21 years ago and the way it is 8 today in Union City. Some of these places, we had 9 to babysit on a daily basis, be out there at 3:00 10 in the morning. We rolled the hours back from 11 3:00 in the morning to 2:00, the liquor owners 12 told me that the sky would fall if we did that, 13 everything seemed to work out at the end. It 14 actually helped the police to do more proactive 15 patrolling. We really, really cleaned it up. 16 I'm in total debt to Greg for what's 17 he's done for this City. Whatever he's made as 18 the municipal ABC prosecutor should have been 19 tripled for what he's done to help us. And I'm 20 sorry to see him go. I tried to convince him to 21 stay. He's done a tremendous job. And on behalf 22 of the commissioners and myself, I say thank you 23 so much for what you did during the most difficult 24 times in the City to help us clean up a lot of 25 these bad establishments. Thank you for the 6 1 dedication, the late hours, some of the character 2 attorneys that we dealt with over the years, 3 without mentioning names, Greg and I know well. 4 One of them is our favorite. I remember we had a 5 meeting one night until almost 1:00 in the 6 morning. Those are tough times and the 7 Commissioners will remember that. Those were 8 really tough times. 9 COMMISSIONER MARTINETTI: Yes, he was 10 here, Mrs. Farmer. Yes, he was. 11 MAYOR STACK: I just say Greg, thank you 12 and thank you to your family. We're going to miss 13 you, don't be a stranger, keep in touch with me, 14 please. I know your phone number by heart, I do. 15 And thank you for everything, Greg. 16 Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart. 17 Thank you. 18 COMMISSIONER FERNANDEZ: As much as I'm 19 honored to be presenting this to you, I'm also 20 very saddened because you're a great attorney, 21 you're a great person, but most of all you're a 22 true gentleman. And I really hate to see you go, 23 sir. It's been a great pleasure knowing and you 24 work with you here at the ABC board. 25 On behalf of the Mayor and the Board of 7 1 Commissioners, we'd like to present to you this 2 plaque. Congratulations, sir. 3 4 (Commissioner Fernandez read the 5 plaque.) 6 7 COMMISSIONER VALDIVIA: I'm going to 8 read a proclamation. Before reading the 9 proclamation, I thank you for everything you've 10 done for the City of Union City. And my wife 11 works at the courthouse, she's a secretary for 12 Judge Montenegro and she loves Mr. Farmer, right, 13 Mr. Farmer? They got the same respect for each 14 other, they both like each other a lot. I didn't 15 know you were going to retire, I would have 16 brought her. 17 MR. FARMER: I'm having a conference 18 with her Thursday. 19 COMMISSIONER MARTINETTI: I just want to 20 say thank you for your service and I remember 21 going to your office on 30th Street, we were there 22 in your office. Also like the mayor said, a 23 phenomenal attorney for the City. Thank you for 24 your help and thank to you to your family for 25 sharing him with us because he's been amazing. 8 1 COMMISSIONER GRULLON: Thank you very 2 much for your dedication and what you've done. 3 We're going to miss you. I wish you all the best. 4 COMMISSIONER VALDIVIA: I'm going to 5 read the proclamation now. 6 7 (Commissioner Valdivia read the 8 proclamation.) 9 10 MR. FARMER: Thank you very much and I 11 was thinking about what I would say today. I 12 realized after thinking long and hard that it came 13 down to two words, thank you. Thank you for your 14 kindness, thank you for your generosity, thank you 15 for your support, thank you for your loyalty, 16 thank you for your comradery, and thank you for 17 always making me feel comfortable and supported. 18 I could not have done any of the things without 19 your help, your support. 20 And as was mentioned, I've been in 21 Union City 50 years and I've seen the changes. 22 Without a doubt, the City is in better shape than 23 it's ever been at any time, but also the support 24 of the committee and you're always out meeting and 25 greeting people and always doing one thing and 9 1 that is making Union City better. And you've 2 accomplished that and you still keep going to make 3 it better and better and better. You've done a 4 wonderful job and I thank you for all those years. 5 6 (Whereupon, the Board discussed and took 7 action on the following item: 8 APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES - REGULAR MEETINGS - 9 JUNE 30, 2022 AND JULY 6, 2022.) 10 11 MS.
