AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 16 VEHICLES 18 TRAFFIC SCHEDULE XIII “BUS/COMMUTER VEHICLES 19 STOPS” 20 21 ACTING CITY CLERK: Next Ordinance is 22 Amending Chapter 16 Vehicle Traffic Schedule VIII 23 (sic) Bus/Commuter Vehicle Stops. 24 MAYOR STACK: These are two bus stops that 25 we’re moving. 9 th 1 One is on 30 Street, on the Marginal. 2 It’s being recommended by the Police Department; 3 Chief Molinari is here with us today; 30th Street, 4 right on the Marginal. It’s right in front of 5 501 30th Street right now. 6 We’d be moving it from the northwest corner 7 to the northeast corner, -- 8 Am I correct, Chief? 9 CHIEF MOLINARI: Correct. 10 MAYOR STACK: Right, of 30th Street, -- 11 CHIEF MOLINARI: No, south. 12 MAYOR STACK: South. Sorry. I’m sorry. 13 Southeast corner. 14 Right? 15 CHIEF MOLINARI: Correct. 16 MAYOR STACK: Southeast corner of 30th and 17 the Marginal. 18 It would make it safer. It would stop the 19 backup of traffic. We have an officer there 25 every day. The buses stopping make it somewhat 11 1 of an impediment for the children and the parents 2 that are bringing their children to school. 3 COMMISSIONER VALDIVIA: It’s dangerous. 4 It’s true. 5 6 ORDINANCE(S) FOR INTRODUCTION: 7 8 3. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SCHEDULE V TO SECTION 9 16-4.1 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF UNION CITY 10 ENTITLED “TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS” TO ADD A STREET 11 WHERE VEHICLES OVER 4 TONS GROSS WEIGHT ARE 12 PROHIBITED.) 13 14 ACTING CITY CLERK: Next Ordinance is 15 Amending Schedule V to Section 16-4.1 of the Code 16 of the City of Union City Entitled Traffic 17 Restriction to Add a Street Where Vehicle Over 4 18 Tons Gross Weight are Probited (sic). 19 MAYOR STACK: Where is this? 20 MS. de los RIOS: Prohibited. 21 This is on 33rd. 22 MAYOR STACK: Oh, 33rd, between New York 23 and Bergenline. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER II, 22 ADMINISTRATION SECTION 2-21, POLICE DEPARTMENT, 23 SUBSECTION 2-21.1 OF “THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF 24 THE CITY OF UNION CITY, 1996” 25 13 1 ACTING CITY CLERK: Next Ordinance Amending 2 Chapter II, Administration Section 2-21, Police 3 Department, Subsection 2-21.1 of the Revised 4 Ordinances of the City of Union City, 1996. 5 MAYOR STACK: And exactly what are we doing 6 here? 7 Just for the public’s knowledge. I mean I 8 know and the Commissioners know but we should 9 state exactly what we’re doing. 10 I believe that there was a typographical 11 mistake made and we were changing the number of 12 specials, I believe, from 25 to 35. 13 Right, Chief? 14 CHIEF MOLINARI: That is correct, Mayor. 15 MAYOR STACK: And we had -- instead of 16 having three captains, it was typed in that there 17 would be four captains, which is not our table of 18 organization. It would only be -- it would be 19 three captains. 20 And was there any other mistake in there 21 that was made? 22 Was there something else? 23 CHIEF MOLINARI: There was. It actually 24 increased the number of sergeants from -- our 25 current T.O., which allowed for 26, to 29. 14 1 MAYOR STACK: And that was a mistake also. 2 CHIEF MOLINARI: Correct. 3 MAYOR STACK: And this is being done. One 4 thing we’ve tried to do is trim the ranks and 5 have it where we have more officers on the 6 street. Chief Molinari’s been very effective in 7 getting that done and helping me with that. 8 Even though at times the State of New 9 Jersey has told us that we should have additional 10 in the ranks, we’ve always tried to do more -- 11 we’ve always tried to do more with less. 12 And it’s even been recommended to me in the 13 past that we have two deputy chiefs and bring 14 back the inspector position; even from officials 15 in the State, which is something we could always 16 revisit in the future. 17 But right now we’re going to go with the 18 three captains. 19 And we’re going to have how many sergeants, 20 Chief? 21 CHIEF MOLINARI: Twenty-six, Mayor. 22 MAYOR STACK: Twenty-six. 23 And how many lieutenants? 24 CHIEF MOLINARI: Eleven. 25 MAYOR STACK: Eleven. 15 1 And thank you -- 2 CHIEF MOLINARI: Which is the current table 3 of -- 4 So the only proposed change here is 5 increasing the number of special law enforcement 6 officers from 25 to 35. 7 MAYOR STACK: Right. 8 Thank you very much, Chief.
