Madison went to school in Idaho and graduated with a sociology degree. She is working with health nd
safety. Madison grew up in UP and went to CHS. Is happy to be back to UP.
6. UPPD/ WPFR/ UPSD report outs
UPSD: Successfully hosted two large football games. Logistics are difficult. Torey is very impressed with
the CHS safety team as they plan for these events. There is an abundance of surveillance/ staffing at these
events.
UN Had a gun event in the last couple months. Torey was very grateful to Chief Burke and the UPPD team for
their increased presence at the school during that time. Parents and staff are also very appreciative.
Torey is on the WSSO and the Pierce County DEM K12 group – very engaged in school safety. Torey feels
OF good if something catastrophic happens.
Escalating student behavior. It is out of control right now. The staff is struggling. UPSD is doing the best
they can to help get through this.
FI
UPSD is working with City engineering to address traffic safety issues/ grant funding. Schools have ongoing
concerns about traffic safety and are always interested in how they can partner with the City to increase
traffic and pedestrian safety.
CI
Working with Moms Demand Action to set up a safe gun storage class with Dan Hacker.
Fentanyl Town Hall at CHS on 11/29 from 6-8PM.
AL
WPFR: Chief Michael Dobbs our newest member of the PSAC, replacing Chief Scott Adams. Used to be a
dispatcher and a reserve police officer before getting into Fire. Used to manage Firecom.
Looking at ways to improve fire safety for this next season.
DO
Staring the cooking season, increased kitchen fires and extension cord fires.
AB: Would like more information on Connected Care outreach efforts/ calls.
KN: Is WPFR having issues with safety at calls. That is something that will always be a problem. Our
N
partners in LE will always be there to support us. Partnerships at all levels has improved.
ME
UPPD: Hosted interviews for 4 patrol/ temporary vacancies. In January we’ll have 4 new patrol people.
We should have an update in the next few weeks on a staffing agreement.
CU
Green Firs event in December/ Chief and patrol staff walking around, talking with patrons and businesses.
Business emphasis work is going well, and Chief is getting great feedback from the grocery stores about the
effect on overall theft and staff/ shoppers feeling safer.
