April 9, 2019 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING URBANA ARTS AND CULTURE COMMISSION APPROVED DATE: April 9, 2019 TIME: 4:30 p.m. PLACE: City Council Chambers, Urbana City Building, 400 South Vine Street, Urbana, Illinois MEMBERS PRESENT: Courtney Becks, Barbara Hedlund, Jared Miller, Stacey Robinson, Patricia Sammann, Jessica Snyder MEMBERS EXCUSED: Katie Harrell, Jenelle Orcherton MEMBERS ABSENT: Sara Jones STAFF PRESENT: Brandon Boys, Economic Development Manager; Rachel Storm, Arts & Culture Coordinator; Sukiya J. Reid, Recording Secretary OTHERS PRESENT: None 1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM The Urbana Arts and Culture Commission was called to order at 4:36 p.m. by Ms. Sammann. Ms. Reid took roll and a quorum was declared present. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the March 12, 2019 meeting were reviewed by the Commission. With no changes proposed, Ms. Sammann made a motion to approve the minutes. Ms. Hedlund seconded the motion. All Commission members present were in favor of approval, and the minutes were unanimously approved as presented. 3. CHANGES TO AGENDA There were none. 4. PUBLIC INPUT There was none. 5. PRESENTATIONS 1 April 9, 2019  Downtown Get Down Update Ms. Sammann introduced this agenda item. Arts and Culture Coordinator Rachel Storm presented information about the City of Urbana’s upcoming Downtown Get Down Summer Series that will take place on the 4th Saturday of the month May-August on Main Street in the heart of Downtown Urbana. The Downtown Get Down features live concerts, DJs, an artist’s street market, kids zone, teen maker lab, inflatables, games, live art demos, performances, and so much more. A brief discussion between members of the staff and Commission ensued.  Discussion of Urbana Arts and Culture Planning 2019-2020 Ms. Storm introduced this agenda item. She stated that the discussion that night would be an initial discussion about visioning, to kick off a longer conversation at a later time. The objectives for the visioning were to: identify three key priorities for the Urbana Arts & Culture Program; identify how the Commission and Program are meeting those priorities at present; and brainstorm ideas for future programming/actions to meet 2019-2020 priorities. A brief discussion between members of the staff and Commission ensued. 6. NEW BUSINESS There was none. 7. ADJOURNMENT Ms. Sammann made a motion that the meeting be adjourned.
