URBANA CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES DATE: January 14, 2019 TIME: 7:00 pm PLACE: Urbana City Council Chambers, 400 S. Vine St., Urbana, IL 61801 The City Council of the City of Urbana, Illinois, met in special session Monday January 14, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Urbana City Building. ELECTED OFFICIALS PHYSICALLY PRESENT: City Council Members (CM) Maryalice Wu (Ward 1), Eric Jakobsson (Ward 2), Bill Brown (Ward 4), Dennis Roberts (Ward 5), Dean Hazen (Ward 6), Jared Miller (Ward 7), Diane Wolfe Marlin (Mayor), Charles A. Smyth (City Clerk) ELECTED OFFICIALS PRESENT VIA TELECONFERENCE: None ELECTED OFFICIALS ABSENT: Ward 3 - Vacant STAFF PRESENT: Carol Mitten, Elizabeth Hannan, Todd Rent, James Simon, John Schneider, Brandon Boys, Bryant Seraphin, Elizabeth Horwitz, Charles Lauss, Bridget Broihahn, Don Ho, Brad Bennett OTHERS PRESENT: News-Gazette, WCIA, Fox 55/27, Shirese Hursey I. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL There being a quorum present, Mayor Marlin called the meeting of the Urbana City Council to order 7:00 p.m. II. PUBLIC INPUT There was none III. NEW BUSINESS a. Mayoral Council Appointment, Ward 3 1. Shirese Hursey, Ward 3 Mayor Marlin nominated Ms. Shirese Hursey to fill the unexpired term of Arron Ammons as Alderman for Ward 3. Mayor Marlin read a short biography of Ms. Hursey and indicated her reasoning for her choice. CM Roberts moved approval of the appointment, seconded by CM Jakobsson and passed by roll call vote (6-0): Brown – Aye, Hazen – Aye, Jakobsson – Aye, Miller – Aye, Roberts – Aye, Wu – Aye. Mayor Marlin administered the Oath of Office to Ms. Hursey. Mayor Marlin thanked all involved in the search process noting that this has been the hardest decision she’s had to make as mayor from an excellent pool of applicants. She thanked and recognized the applicants. She noted that she expects all to continue to be involved in Ward 3 and the city. V. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the City Council, Mayor Marlin declared the meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m. Charles A.
