Sustainability Advisory Commission Meeting

CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Council Chambers, Urbana City Building Tuesday, December 2, 2014 Commissioners Present: Chairperson Marya Ryan, Vice Chair Stephen Wald, Bart Bartels, Morgan Johnston, Todd Rusk, Andrew Stumpf, Rachel Vellenga Staff Present: Scott Tess, Kate Brickman Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. Kate Brickman called the roll and a quorum was present. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes to the Agenda. Approval of Minutes from Previous Meeting Motion was made by Ms. Vellenga, second by Mr. Stumpf, to approve the minutes from the November 4, 2014 meeting. Motion carried. Public Input There was no public input. Communications Staff Report Scott Tess gave the monthly Staff Report that included updates on various Goals and Actions from the Climate Action Plan (CAP) and an update on progress. Tess announced that the CAP Phase II was approved by City Council on December 1. Additionally, the report noted various U- Cycle activities. The report stated January 6 as the next meeting date. The School for Designing a Society Presents: Pester Power! Mark Enslin provided a brief background on the Pester Power presentation. 5 young people from Urbana then performed a live 25 minute mixed media piece before the Commission that addressed environmental and racial climate. The students answered questions after their performance and held discussion with members. Continuing Business There was no continuing business to address. New Business 2015 SAC Meeting Schedule Approval Scott Tess provided a list of the dates for the regularly scheduled of SAC for the 2015 calendar year. Motion was made by Mr. Rusk, second by Ms. Vellenga, to amend the June date presented from June 13 to June 2 and approve the dates as follows, with all meetings to take place at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, except as noted below: • 6 January 2015 • 3 February 2015 • 3 March 2015 • 7 April 2015 • 5 May 2015 • 2 June 1015 • 7 July 2015 • 4 August 2015 • 1 September 2015 • 6 October 2015 • 3 November 2015 – Executive Conference Room – City Building • 1 December 2015 Motion carried. Announcements Scott Tess relayed that the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Agriculture announced the public comment period for the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy, a new statewide effort designed to improve local water quality in Illinois and the Gulf of Mexico. Comments must be postmarked by midnight on January 24, 2015. Bart Bartles announced the Illinois Green Office Challenge topic for the month of December as Waste Reduction Strategies. There will be a workshop at 5:00 p.m. on December 10 at the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center.
