Sustainability Advisory Commission Meeting

UNAPPROVED CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SPECIAL MEETING OF THE SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Council Chambers, Urbana City Building Thursday, September 24, 2015 Commissioners Present: Chairperson Marya Ryan, Bart Bartels, Morgan Johnston, Andrew Stumpf Commissioners Absent: Vice Chair Stephen Wald, Todd Rusk, Pam Voitik Staff Present: Scott Tess, Kate Brickman Additional Present: Peter Murphy (via telephone), Dennis Donaldson, Andy Robinson, Thor Peterson, Peter Christensen, Cassie Carroll Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. Kate Brickman called the roll and a quorum was present. Marya Ryan asked all participants to introduce themselves. The Commission consented to have invited guests participate in the Commission's discussion throughout the meeting. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes to the agenda. Approval of Minutes from Previous Meeting There were no minutes presented for approval, due to this being a special meeting. Minutes from the September 8, 2015 meeting will be reviewed at the next regular meeting of the SAC. Public Input There was no public input. Communications Scott Tess announced that the Sustainable Water Management Plan won an award from the Illinois chapter of the American Planning Association in the Sustainability category. Continuing Business Review and determine U-C Solar Request for Proposal provisions Peter Murphy, Market Development Coordinator at the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, provided an update of the Grow Solar timeline and received technical and programmatic recommendations from the Commission concerning the Request for Proposal requirements. Discussion ensued. Highlights were as follows: • Making the logo more placed-based;  UNAPPROVED • Strong interest in minimum quality specified and/or regionally made/Made in USA; • Including a list of preferred qualifications of the vendor (advisory members were asked to provide lists); • Offering two tiers of product quality in the RFP or in the Program. The commission discussed cancelling the October 6 meeting and rescheduling to October 13. All were in agreement to cancel and reschedule. Announcements The Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment is hosting a Community Conversation on Energy Conservation on October 20, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room at the ACES Library on campus. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:26 p.m. This meeting was recorded.
