CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Executive Conference Room, Urbana City Building Tuesday, July 11, 2017 Commissioners Present: Chairperson Stacy Gloss, Vice Chair Stephen Wald, Dustin Allred Commissioners Absent: Morgan Johnston, Beth Meschewski, Todd Rusk, Andrew Stumpf Staff Present: Scott Tess, Kathryn Levy Additional Present: Marcus Ricci, Community Development Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by Stacy Gloss. Kathryn Levy called the roll and noted that a quorum was not present. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes to the agenda. Approval of Minutes Minutes from the June meeting could not be approved. Public Input There was no public input. Communications Staff Report Scott Tess gave the monthly Staff Report which included progress on the Climate Action Plan (CAP) Phase 2, highlighting the creation of a Pedestrian Master Plan, updates on Solar Urbana- Champaign and the Property Assessed Clean Energy bill, and the signing of the Climate Mayors Pledge by Mayor Marlin. Associated with the Sustainable Water Management Plan, Tess discussed the results of the rain barrel truck sale a planned tour of green infrastructure and pollinator plant installations in collaboration with the Champaign County Sustainability Network. Additionally, various stakeholder efforts were underway, in collaboration with U-Cycle, to set up a household hazardous waste event I the near future. The Report stated August 1, 2017 as the next meeting date. Continuing Business There was no continuing business. New Business Landfill Solar Scott Tess led a discussion regarding the potential for developing a solar array on acreage at Urbana’s closed landfill. Tess indicated that he is currently speaking with solar developers, soliciting technical assistance, reading requests for proposals from other states, and developing his own proposal. Community Solar REC prices should be published in draft form in September. Climate Mayors Pledge Scott Tess addressed the Climate Mayors Pledge in Staff Report. Commission Outreach Activities Members present discussed possible outreach activities that the Commission could engage the community with. Announcements Scott Tess announced a Faith in Place hosted Smart Energy Workshop at the Champaign Main Public Library, Robeson Pavilion Room B on Wednesday, July 26 at 10:00 a.m. Marcus Ricci announced a survey measuring community satisfaction with biking and walking in our area and accessibility to Urbana’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BPAC-urbana. Ricci also relayed that the Boneyard Creek Community Day Clean Up has been rescheduled to August 5. Stephen Wald bid farewell to the Commission and Commissioners thanked him for his years of insight and service to the City and sustainability efforts. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:39 p.m. This meeting was recorded.
