APPROVED CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Executive Conference Room, Urbana City Building Tuesday, September 4, 2018 Commissioners Present: Chairperson Stacy Gloss, Dustin Allred, Claire Johnson, Morgan White, Maddy Garbacz Commissioners Absent: Todd Rusk, Andrew Stumpf, Tesfaye Wolde-Medhin Staff Present: Scott Tess, Amanda Flores Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum Chairperson Stacy Gloss called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Amanda Flores called the roll and a quorum was present. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes to the agenda Correction Ms. Gloss wanted to make the correction that the Youth Sustainability Summit is scheduled for October 13, 2018. Approval of Minutes Motion was made by Ms. Johnson, second by Mr. Allred, to approve the minutes from the August 7, 2018 meeting. Motion carried. Public Input There was no Public Input. Communications Staff Report Scott Tess gave the monthly Staff Report which included an update on the benchmarks reached for the Solar Urbana-Champaign 3.0 triggering another 1% discount, additional Solar Power Hours to be scheduled for late September and early October with the deadline to register being extended to the end of October 2018, and the potential for the County Treasurer’s Office to develop a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) District at the County level rather than at a City level. Additionally, various energy and climate activities were noted, including the “Listen, Lead, Share” sessions by the Downstate Caucus of the Illinois Climate Table. An update on the Sustainable Water Management Plan was provided. These included the Midwest Grows Green program that kicked off with a table at the Urbana Market at the Square and a FREE organic gardening demonstration at Meadowbrook Park, public engagements at the University of Illinois Extension Office, and an update on the U-cycle participation at the Urbana Sweetcorn Festival, as well as public education about the U-cycle program. 1 APPROVED The Report stated October 2, 2018 as the next meeting date. Update on Youth Sustainability Summit Youth Commissioner, Maddy Garbacz, gave an update on the Youth Sustainability Summit with the date firmly set for October 13 at the Siebel Center, the website going live for registration, social media presence, agenda, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities Information and Best Practices Requests Mr. Tess presented the opportunity for Commissioner to do literature review and report back to the Commission regarding cutting edge topics or topics of interest for body and give a high-level overview for further discussion and consideration at future meetings. Old Business There was no old business. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:03 p.m. This meeting was recorded.
