APPROVED CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Council Chambers, Urbana City Building Tuesday, November 5, 2019 Commissioners Present: Stacy Gloss, Dustin Allred, Tomas Delgado, Andrew Stumpf, Morgan White, Maddy Garbacz Commissioners Absent: Megan McGinty, Tesfaye Wolde-Medhin Staff Present: Scott Tess, Amanda Plotner Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum Chairperson Stacy Gloss called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. Amanda Plotner called the roll and a quorum was present. Approval of Minutes Morgan White motioned for the approval of the minutes from the 10/01/19 meeting. Andrew Stumpf seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes or additions to the agenda. Public Input There was no public input Staff Report Scott Tess updated the commission that Solar Urbana-Champaign has concluded with 365kw of capacity. See 11/05/2019 Staff Report for tabular details on this. Mr. Tess shared that a proposal has been accepted to establish internet connection to the Landscape Recycling Center with a line-of-sight wireless connection. Additionally, Mr. Tess reported that staff spoke to a Civil Engineering course at the University of Illinois about the City’s sustainability and resilience work. Outcomes from the Fall 2019 electronics recycling events, hosted by Champaign County, and the household hazardous waste event, sponsored by the Illinois EPA were shared by Mr. Tess. With over half of the 1,400 households that registered for the hazardous waste event not being able to drop off material, the IEPA is working on conducting another event in Spring 2020. Lastly, staff attended SWANA’s WasteCon 2019 event in Phoenix, AZ. See 11/05/2019 Staff Report for more details. The next meeting is scheduled for February 4 at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers at the Urbana City Building. 1 APPROVED Econonic Development Presentation Brandon Boys, Economic Development Manager for the City, shared the CY2018 Enterprise Zone presentation in the context of the review of the 2002 Comprehensive Plan. The presentation included an overview and history of the Enterprise Zone, how it works and impacts that the Community Development department has observed so far. A lively discussion and Q&A ensued. Announcements 1. 11/6/19 5pm–6pm Student-focused Input Session for the U of I Climate Action Plan – Room 2101 of Everett, on the corner of Green and Wright. There is a Facebook event on the University of Illinois for Sustainability, Energy and Environment Facebook page. 2. The ECE Building achieved Lead Platinum Certification. 3. 11/13/19 7pm–8pm Youth Sustainability Summit Planning Meeting at the Urbana Free Library. More information may be requested from Scott Tess.
