CITY OF VERONA MINUTES FINANCE COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 23, 2013 VERONA CITY HALL 1. The meeting was called to order by Mac McGilvray at 6:35 p.m. 2 Roll Call: Elizabeth Doyle, Mac McGilvray. Absent (excused): Scott Manley. Also present: Jon Hochkammer, Mayor; Diane Lanaville, Senior Center Director; Cindy Engelke, Finance Director; Brad Stiner, Alderperson; Brian Simons, Library Director. 3. Approval of the 8/26/2013 Finance Committee Minutes: Motion by McGilvray, seconded by Doyle, to approve the 8/26/2013 Finance Committee Minutes. Motion carried 2-0. 4. Payment of Bills: Motion by McGilvray, seconded by Doyle, to approve the payment of bills in the amount of $851,639.54. Motion carried 2-0. 5. Approval to Recommend Purchase of Replacement Chairs for the Senior Center: Ms. Lanaville explained the proposal to replace 132 chairs at the Senior Center for a total cost of $23,614.80. The existing chairs are proposed to be replaced with more contemporary low back chairs that are wider and sturdier. It was also noted that a Senior Center facility replacement fund was established as a part of the 2013 budget. Ms. Engelke provided a summary analysis of the Senior Center available fund balance and the suggested funding for the cost of replacing the chairs. Before purchase of the proposed chairs, the Senior Citizen Fund is expected to have an operating reserve of approximately $40,000 and the Senior Center Replacement fund reserve is expected to have a balance of $15,500 at year end 2013. The suggested application of fund reserves includes applying $20,391 of operating reserve and $3,224 of replacement fund reserves for a total of $23,615. Alderperson McGilvray noted that there was unanimous approval for the purchase of the chairs by the Senior Center Committee members. Motion by McGilvray, seconded by Doyle, to recommend that the proposal to purchase replacement chairs for the Senior Center be placed on the next Common Council Agenda with funding of $20,391 coming from the Senior operating reserve and $3,224 coming from the replacement reserve. Motion carried 2-0. 6. Adjournment: Motion by McGilvray, seconded by Doyle, to adjourn the Finance Committee Meeting at 6:45 p.m. Motion carried 2-0.
