CITY OF VERONA MINUTES FINANCE COMMITTEE JANUARY 13, 2014 VERONA CITY HALL 1. The meeting was called to order by Scott Manley at 6:38 p.m. 2 Roll Call: Elizabeth Doyle, Scott Manley. Absent (excused): William “Mac” McGilvray. Also present: Jon Hochkammer; Brad Stiner, Alderperson; Bill Burns, City Administrator. 3. Approval of the 12/9/2013 Finance Committee Minutes: Motion by Doyle, seconded by Manley, to approve the 12/9/2013 Finance Committee minutes. Motion carried 2-0. 4. Payment of Bills: Motion by Manley, seconded by Doyle, to approve the payment of bills for the January check run in the amount of $944,568.73. Motion carried 2-0. Motion by Manley, seconded by Doyle, to approve the payment of bills for the December check run in the amount of $287,548.04. Motion carried 2-0. 5. Payment of Out-of-Office Checks: Motion by Manley, seconded by Doyle, to approve the payment of out-of-office checks in the amount of $9,012,799.45. Motion carried 2-0. 6. Authorization to Rescind 2013 Taxes for the Property at 513 W. Verona Avenue: Mr. Burns reported that as part of the conversion to new assessment software, the tax exempt status of the property at 513 W. Verona Avenue (St. Vincent de Paul) was inadvertently removed. As a result, a tax bill was generated in the amount of $31,864.02. This is considered a palpable error as the property is exempt by law from taxation. The City has the ability to rescind the taxes and to seek a chargeback to the other taxing jurisdictions for their share of the amount of rescinded taxes. Motion by Doyle, seconded by Manley, to recommend that Common Council rescind the 2013 property taxes for the property located at 513 W. Verona Avenue. Motion carried 2-0. 7. Resolution R-14-003 Designating Public Depositories and Authorizing Financial Signatories for the City of Verona, Dane County, Wisconsin: Mr. Burns explained that annually the City Council approves the list of authorized financial institutions where the City may keep funds. In addition, the City’s signatories are being updated to reflect a name change for the City Clerk. Motion by Manley, seconded by Doyle to recommend that the Common Council approve Resolution R-14-003 designating public depositories and authorizing financial signatories. Motion carried 2-0. 8. Adjournment: Motion by Doyle, seconded by Manley, to adjourn the Finance Committee Meeting at 6:50 p.m. Motion carried 2-0. Respectfully submitted, Bill Burns, City Administrator
