CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PERSONNEL COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 25, 2013 VERONA CITY HALL 1. The meeting was called to order by Elizabeth Doyle at 4:35 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Mike Bare, Elizabeth Doyle, Dale Yurs. Also present: Jon Hochkammer, Mayor; Bill Burns, City Administrator; Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief. 3. Approval of Minutes from the October 14, 2013 Personnel Committee Meeting: Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare, to approve the minutes from the October 14, 2013 Personnel Committee meeting. Motion carried 3-0. 4. Position Description and Recruitment for the Senior Center Director Position Mr. Burns reported that the Senior Center Director, Diane Lanaville, is planning to retire effective January 3, 2013. Staff have reviewed the position description and recommend modifications including adding required and desirable experience and referencing working with the Verona Area Active Adults Board. Mr. Burns also presented a draft job advertisement and recruitment process and timeline. The Committee reviews reviewed comparable salary information. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare, to approve the position description and to direct staff to start the recruitment process with an advertised salary range of $55,000 to $65,000. Motion carried 3-0. 5. Discussion of a Negotiating Strategy for a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Wisconsin Professional Police Association (WPPA) Police Department Unit: Motion by Yurs, seconded by Doyle, to convene in closed session as authorized by Section 19.85 (1)(e) of the Wisconsin Statutes for the purpose of deliberating or negotiating the purchase of public properties, the investing of public funds, or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session. Voting Aye: Bare, Doyle, Yurs. Voting No: None. The Committee returned to open session and no action was taken on the closed session item. Mayor Hochkammer stated that the Committee should look at conducting the annual evaluation of the City Administrator. 6. Adjournment: Motion by Bare, seconded by Yurs, to adjourn the meeting at 5:25 p.m. Motion carried 3-0. Respectfully submitted, Bill Burns, City Administrator
