CITY OF VERONA MINUTES PERSONNEL COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 22, 2014 VERONA CITY HALL 1. The meeting was called to order by Elizabeth Doyle at 5:00 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Elizabeth Doyle, Heather Reekie, Dale Yurs. Also present: Jon Hochkammer, Mayor; Bill Burns, City Administrator. 3. Approval of the Minutes of the March 24, 2014 Personnel Committee Minutes: Motion by Yurs, seconded by Reekie, to approve the minutes of the March 24, 2014 Personnel Committee meeting. Voting Aye: Doyle, Reekie, Yurs. Voting No: None. 4. Reference and Background Check Policy: Mr. Burns provided an overview of a proposed policy on references and background checks. Members of the Committee suggested modifying the wording of the last sentence to read: “Employees providing reference information should base their statements on objective evidence and avoid making unsubstantiated accusations of improper conduct.” 5. Hazardous Communication Policy: Mr. Burns provided an overview of a proposed policy on hazardous communication. 6. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Policy: Mr. Burns provided an overview of a proposed policy on the Americans with Disabilities Act. 7. Code of Conduct Policy: Mr. Burns provided an overview of a proposed policy on code of conduct. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Reekie, to recommend that the City Council approve the above policies as recommended including the modification to the wording to the Reference and Background Check policy. Motion carried 3-0. 8. Update on recently filled and open positions: Mr. Burns providing an update on the following positions:  Senior Center Program Manager – Jennifer Miller started on September 15, 2014  Police Officer – Joel Zietsma started on September 15, 2014  Police Records Clerk (Part-time) – Allison Heil will start on September 29, 2014  Administration Assistant (Public Works Facility – Part Time) – Applications are due on October 3, 2014 9.
