Discussion of Project Goals and Guiding Principles Mayor Hochkammer and Mr. Burns presented a draft list of guiding principles and project goals. Committee members were generally in agreement with the list. It was suggested that if any members have comments or suggestions that they forward them to Mr. Burns prior to the next meeting and that his item will be placed on the next agenda for possible action. 5. Tour of the Current Fire Station Facility and Review of Deficiencies Chief Giver provided a tour of the current fire station facility and pointed up some of the major deficiencies and desires for a future facility. Some of the items noted included:  There are no sleeping quarters  There is limited office and storage space  There is limited space in the apparatus bays – there is limited room to store and work on equipment  Firefighter turnout gear is stored right alongside trucks with no protection  There is no vehicle exhaust capture system  There are ongoing problems with the HVAC system  The restrooms are small and there is no shower in the women’s restroom 6. Discussion of Possible Facility Tour Locations Mr. Burns and Chief Giver provided information on several fire and EMS facilities in the state that could be visited in order to provide insight on available options. It was suggested that staff recommend a short list of facilities to visit and to contact committee members to find out their availability. Staff may also be conducting pre-visits of facilities and reporting back to the committee. April 29 was identified as a possible date for tours. 7. Discussion of the Planning and Construction Process Options and Timeline Mr. Burns walked through a rough draft of a timeline for the project and the committee. There was a desire to try to move up the timeline, if possible. There may be potential to reduce the design period if there is a strong conceptual design prepared in 2013. Chief Giver reported that Five Bugles Design will be providing information on a space needs analysis. Their preliminary findings recommend a facility of about 37,000 square feet including 4,000 square feet of basement area. 8. Schedule of Future Meetings Staff will survey members to identify possible dates for tours and additional meetings. 9. Adjournment: Motion by Solowicz, seconded by Manley, to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Motion carried 7-0. Respectfully submitted, Bill Burns, City Administrator 2
