CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE FEBRUARY 10, 2014 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Manley at 5:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Members Present: Michael Bare, Scott Manley and Dale Yurs. Others Present: Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief; Elizabeth Doyle, Alderperson District 1; and Kami Scofield, City Clerk. 3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Bare, seconded by Yurs to approve the minutes from the December 9, 2013 meeting. Motion carried 3/0. 4. Hearing for Timothy Knox Regarding Chief’s Recommended Denial of Operator’s License. Mr. Knox did not appear for the hearing but the Committee asked Chief Coughlin to explain the item and the basis for the recommendation to deny the issuance of an Operator License. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare to recommend to the Common Council that it deny an operator’s license for Timothy Knox because, based on the following factors, Mr. Knox failed to satisfy the qualifications for a license: 1. Mr. Knox failed to disclose several violations which he had been convicted of as required by the operator’s license application. 2. Mr. Knox is a habitual law offender under section 125.04 of the Wisconsin Statutes. 3. Mr. Knox’s multiple convictions for Operating While Intoxicated and his Theft conviction are substantially related to his ability to serve fermented malt beverages and/or intoxicating liquors. Motion carried 3/0. 5. Discussion Regarding a Pedal Pub Ordinance. Chief Coughlin provided information on Pedal Pubs and the Committee discussed potential safety issues with Pedal Pubs. This item was for discussion only and no action was taken. 6. Adjournment. Motion by Bare, seconded by Yurs to adjourn the meeting at 6:06 p.m. Motion carried 3/0.
