CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE MARCH 10, 2014 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Manley at 5:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Members Present: Michael Bare, Scott Manley and Dale Yurs. Others Present: Bernie Coughlin, Police Chief; Bill Burns, City Administrator; and Kami Scofield, City Clerk. 3. Approval of Minutes. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare to approve the minutes from the February 24, 2014 meeting. Motion carried 3/0. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Class B Beer and Class C Wine License for Brews Brothers Pub located at 611 Hometown Circle, Steven Day, Agent. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare to recommend that the council approve the Class B Beer and Class C Wine license beginning May 1, 2014 contingent upon the completion of the building and fire inspection of the establishment. Motion carried 3/0. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Special Event Permit for ‘Verona Mud Fest’ on Saturday May 17, 2014 from Samuel Scaletta, Race Day Events, LLC. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare to approve the Special Event Permit for the ‘Verona Mud Fest’ with the contingency that proof of insurance is provided. Motion carried 3/0. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding an application for a Temporary Class B Beer License for ‘Verona Mud Fest’ on Saturday May 17, 2014 from Mike O’Brien of Ice Inc. Motion by Bare, seconded by Yurs to recommend that the Common Council approve the Temporary Class B license. One Officer will be on site near the beer tent at the event. This has been done in previous years at the event and has been successful. Motion carried 3/0. 7. Discussion and possible action regarding Ordinance No. 14‐840 Amending Section 27 of Chapter 1 of Title 10 of the Code of Ordinances‐ Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Parking Prohibited Zones to Prohibit Parking on American Way Between CTH PB and John P Livesy Boulevard. The proposed ordinance restricts parking on either side of boulevard for about one block to allow for large trucks to get through. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare to recommend that the Common Council approve Ordinance No. 14‐840. Motion carried 3/0. 8. Discussion regarding the bicycle/pedestrian crossing on the 300 block of South Main Street. Chief Coughlin provided information on adding signage/flashing lights to the bicycle and pedestrian crossing of the Military ridge trail at South Main Street to signal traffic to stop and allow bicycles and pedestrians to cross. No action was taken on the item. 9. Adjournment. Motion by Yurs, seconded by Bare to adjourn the meeting at 6:06 p.m. Motion carried 3/0. Kami Scofield, City Clerk 2014-3-10 PS&W
