MINUTES
1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Evan Touchett at 5:35 p.m.
2. Roll Call: Heather Reekie and Evan Touchett present. Also in attendance: Police Chief
Bernie Coughlin, Sergeant Jesse Christensen, City Clerk Ellen Clark, Verona Area
Chamber of Commerce Director Le Jordan, Michael O’Brien, Bruce Meier, and
Phil Hoechst
3. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to approve the minutes
of the April 11, 2016 meeting. Motion carried 2-0.
4. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit for Hometown Days, June 2-5,
2016 from Verona Area Chamber of Commerce. Sergeant Christensen stated that they
are maintaining the status quo for the event in regard to the parade and festival. The
fireworks are being moved to Friday night. Beer tent hours for the 2016 event will be:
Thursday, June 2nd – 5 p.m. to Midnight, with a band from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Children
12 and under accompanied by a parent will be allowed in the tent until 7 p.m. only.
Friday, June 3rd – 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., with a band from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Children 12
and under accompanied by a parent will be allowed in the tent until 8 p.m. only.
Saturday, June 4th – Noon to 1 a.m., with a band from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Children 12
and under accompanied by a parent will be allowed in the tent until 8 p.m. only. Sunday,
June 5th – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children accompanied by a parent will be allowed in the tent
from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Chief Coughlin stated that a list of carnival company employees
will be required for precautionary purposes. An insurance certificate is on file. Motion
by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to approve a Special Event Permit for Hometown
Days, June 2-5, 2016 from Verona Area Chamber of Commerce, with the contingency
that the carnival company must submit a list of employees working the event no later
than Tuesday, May 31st at 3 p.m. Motion carried 2-0.
5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: An Application for a Temporary Class “B” Retailer’s
License for June 2-5, 2016 at Festival Park, 111 Lincoln Street, from Fitchburg-Verona
Rotary Club, for Hometown Days. An insurance certificate is on file. Motion by Reekie,
seconded by Touchett, to recommend to the Common Council to approve the
application for a Temporary Class “B” Retailer’s License for the Fitchburg-Verona Rotary
Club for June 2-5, 2016 at Festival Park. Motion Carried 2-0.
6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit for the Hometown Rumble
Car Show on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from Jim Bach, Bach Racecraft. Chief Coughlin
stated that Mr. Bach has done this show before, with no problems. The event will take
place on Legion Street from S. Nine Mound Road and around the corner to 502
Commerce Parkway. An insurance certificate is on file. Motion by Reekie, seconded by
Touchette, to approve a Special Event Permit for the Hometown Rumble Car Show
on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Motion carried 2-0.
7. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit for a Fundraiser and Outdoor
Barbeque Dinner on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from Bruce Meier, Dok’s Klassik Tavern.
Chief Coughlin stated this is a fundraiser for UW Children’s Hospital. Mr. Meier has been
sponsoring this event at University Ridge Golf Course for 15 years, but this year he’s
being bumped by the PGA tournament, so he is having the dinner at Dok’s Klassik
Tavern. Meier is providing transportation to and from the event. The Police Department
is requesting that one officer be present. An insurance certificate is on file. Reekie and
Touchett thanked Mr. Meier for sponsoring this event. Motion by Reekie, seconded by
Touchett to recommend to the Common Council to approve the Special Event Permit for
a Fundraiser and Outdoor Barbeque Dinner on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Dok’s Klassik
Tavern, 410 W. Verona Avenue, contingent upon completion of a records check of the
applicant. Motion carried 2-0.
8. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Temporary Premise Description Amendment for
Class “B” Beer and “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor Licenses on Thursday, June 16, 2016 for
Dok’s Klassik Tavern, Located at 410 W. Verona Avenue, to Include the Parking Lot and a
Dinner Tent on the West Lawn. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to recommend
to the Common Council to approve a Temporary Premise Description Amendment for
Class “B” Beer and “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor Licenses on Thursday, June 16, 2016 for
Dok’s Klassik Tavern, located at 410 W. Verona Avenue, to include the parking lot and a
dinner tent on the west lawn, contingent upon completion of a records check of the
applicant. Motion carried 2-0.
9. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit for Hop Haus Brewing
Company 1st Anniversary Party on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from Phil Hoechst. Sergeant
Christensen stated this event will be held in the parking lot in front of the business from
Noon – 10 p.m., with outdoor seating, a food cart, and live music from 6-9 p.m. The
Police Department is requesting one officer from 6-10 p.m. An insurance certificate is on
file. Touchett directed Mr. Hoechst to notify the residents of the condominiums behind
the business that the event will be taking place. Due to a conflict of interest, Touchett
cannot vote on this item. Reekie will make a recommendation to the Common Council
to approve this item.
10. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Temporary Premise Description Change for Class
“B” Beer and Reserve “Class B” Intoxicating Liquor Licenses on Saturday, June 18, 2016,
for the Hop Haus Brewing Company, LLC, Located at 231 S. Main Street, to Include the
Front Parking Lot. Due to a conflict of interest, Touchett cannot vote on this item.
Reekie will make a recommendation to the Common Council to approve this item.
11. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit for the Verona Wildcats
Youth Hockey Association Nest Fest on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from Michael
O’Brien. Chief Coughlin stated this is the eighth year for Nest Fest. This is a fundraiser
for the hockey association and ice arena. Alcohol will be served upstairs at the ice
arena from 5 p.m. to Midnight. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to recommend
to the Common Council to approve the Special Event Permit for the Verona Wildcats
Youth Hockey Association Nest Fest on Saturday, September 24, 2016, contingent upon
submission of an insurance certificate and completion of a records check of the
applicant. Motion carried 2-0.
12. Discussion and Possible Action Re: An Application for a Temporary Class “B” Retailer’s
License for September 24, 2016 at the Eagle’s Nest, 451 E. Verona Avenue, from the
Verona Wildcats Youth Hockey Association. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to
recommend to the Common Council to approve the application for a Temporary Class
“B” Retailer’s License for September 24, 2016 at the Eagle’s Nest, 451 E. Verona Avenue,
for the Verona Wildcats Youth Hockey Association, contingent upon submission of an
insurance certificate and completion of a records check of the applicant. Motion
carried 2-0.
13. Adjournment. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to adjourn at 6:20 p.m. Motion
carried 2-0.
