CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE JUNE 13, 2016 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Evan Touchett at 5:38 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Heather Reekie and Evan Touchett present. Also in attendance: Alderperson Scott Stewart, Police Chief Bernie Coughlin, Police Sergeant Jesse Christensen, Brianna Patten, Matthew Giesfeldt, and City Clerk Ellen Clark 3. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to approve the minutes of the May 23, 2016 meeting. Motion carried 2-0. 4. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit for Boys & Girls Club of Dane County for the Bike for Boys & Girls Club on Saturday, July 16, 2016, from Brianna Patten. Chief Coughlin stated this is the eleventh year for this event. This is an overall good event to get behind. They do 8, 25 and 50 mile bike rides, with a portion coming through Verona. The police department will provide control in two locations – Whalen & CTH PD and Whalen & CTH M. No road closures are necessary. There are no reservations with this application. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to approve a Special Event Permit for Boys & Girls Club of Dane County for the Bike for Boys & Girls Club on Saturday, July 16, 2016, contingent upon a criminal history check of the applicant. Motion carried 2-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit for Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk Co-op for the Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk on Saturday, August 13, 2016, from Matthew Giesfeldt. Chief Coughlin stated this is the eighth annual run/walk. The 5K course starts and ends at Veterans Park. Volunteers will be at every corner of the course. 175-200 runners are expected. No traffic control is necessary for this event. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to approve a Special Event Permit for Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk Co-op for the Mama Goose Memorial Run/Walk on Saturday, August 13, 2016 contingent upon a criminal history check of the applicant. Motion carried 2-0. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Ordinance No. 16-875 Amending Section 27 of Chapter 1 of Title 10 of the Code of Ordinances – Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Parking Prohibited Zones, to Prohibit Parking on Keenan Court. Keenan Court runs north and bends to the west. The road is quite narrow. If parking were allowed on any portion of it, people would have trouble getting through. The best decision is to have no parking at all on Keenan Court. Signage will be installed as soon as the signs come in. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Touchett, to recommend to Common Council to approve Ordinance No. 16-875 Amending Section 27 of Chapter 1 of Title 10 of the Code of Ordinances – Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Parking Prohibited Zones, to Prohibit Parking on Keenan Court. Motion carried 2-0. 7. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Alcohol License Applications for the 2016-2017 Licensing Period. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to recommend to Common Council to approve the alcohol license applications for the 2016-2017 licensing period as presented by the City Clerk, with the exception of Cahoots, Inc., d/b/a Cahoots, 102 W Railroad Street. Motion carried 2-0. 8. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Cigarette/Tobacco License Applications for the 2016- 2017 Licensing Period. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to recommend to Common Council to approve the cigarette/tobacco license applications for the 2016- 2017 licensing period as presented by the City Clerk, with the exception of Cahoots, Inc., d/b/a Cahoots, 102 W. Railroad Street. Motion carried 2-0. 9. Adjournment. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to adjourn at 6:16 p.m. Motion carried 2-0. Ellen Clark City Clerk
