CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 11, 2017 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to Order: Heather Reekie called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. 2. Roll call: Sarah Gaskell and Heather Reekie present. Evan Touchett was absent and excused. Also present: Police Chief Bernie Coughlin, Jennifer den Daas, Le Jordan, and City Clerk Ellen Clark. 3. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Gaskell, seconded by Reekie, to approve the August 28, 2017 minutes. Motion carried 2-0. 4. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit Application for the 5K Fun Run on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., from Jennifer den Daas, Sugar Creek PTO. This is the third year for this event. The course begins and ends at Sugar Creek Elementary School, with three police department positions staffed for traffic control for the event. There are no concerns with this event. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to approve a Special Event Permit for the 5K Fun Run on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Motion carried 2-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit Application for Fall Fest on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m., from Le Jordan, Verona Area Chamber of Commerce. This is the first annual Fall Fest event. Pumpkin chucking, temporary tattoos, a movie, food vendors, hay rides, a petting zoo, fire pit, and a small band are scheduled. Wine, beer and water will be served. Rather than having a designated beer tent area, the entire event will be fenced. A Temporary Class “B”/ ”Class B” Retailer’s License is required for this event. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to recommend to the Common Council to approve a Special Event Permit for Fall Fest on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m., from Le Jordan, Verona Area Chamber of Commerce, with the following contingencies: 1. That the petting zoo occurs with a licensed business 2. That the fire department issues a permit for the outdoor fire pit 3. That Parks Department approval is provided for tractor or horse-drawn hay rides in the park Motion carried 2-0. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Temporary Class “B”/”Class B” Retailer’s License from the Verona Area Chamber of Commerce for Fall Fest on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m. at Veteran’s Park. The Temporary Retailer’s License will allow the Chamber to serve beer and wine within the fenced area of the Fall Fest event at Veteran’s Park. A licensed bartender will be on site at all times during the event. Motion by Reekie, seconded by Gaskell, to recommend to the Common Council to approve a Temporary Class “B”/”Class B” Retailer’s License from the Verona Area Chamber of Commerce for Fall Fest on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4 p.m. – 11 p.m. Motion carried 2-0. 7. Motion by Gaskell, seconded by Reekie, to adjourn at 6:22 p.m. Motion carried 2-0. Ellen Clark City Clerk
