CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 13, 2017 VERONA CITY HALL MINUTES 1. Call to order: Evan Touchett called the meeting to order at 5:49 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Evan Touchett and Heather Reekie were present. Sarah Gaskell was absent. Also present: Police Chief Bernie Coughlin, Trudy Lorandos, Jennifer Blatz, and Ellen Clark. 3. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to approve the minutes from the October 23, 2017 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion carried 2-0. 5:50 p.m. – Sarah Gaskell now present. 4. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit Application for the Verona Public Library Donor Appreciation Celebration on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m., from Stacey Burkart, Verona Public Library Director. The library is planning a donor appreciation event for December 1, 2017. Wine and beer will be served at the event, however a Temporary “Class B” license is not required, as there will be no alcohol sales. The wine is being donated by the Friends of the Verona Public Library and the beer is being donated by Wisconsin Brewing Company. Trudy Lorandos, Library Circulation Director, noted that the event time has been changed. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to approve a special event permit application for the Verona Public Library Donor Appreciation Celebration on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Motion carried 3-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: A Special Event Permit Application for the 2017 Jingle Bell Run on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m., from Jennifer Blatz, Arthritis Foundation Development Manager. The Jingle Bell Run is a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. This is the fourth year for the event in Verona. The event has three routes – 5K, 10K and 1-mile. Officers will be assigned to the event from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. No parking signs will be posted, and a resident notification form will be mailed to residents along the route two weeks in advance of the event. Motion by Touchett, seconded by Reekie, to approve a special event permit application for the 2017 Jingle Bell Run on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. Motion carried 3-0. 6.
